Stock ignitor operation:
-IGT is the signal from the ecu telling the ignitor to fire the coil at a precise crank angle. This is the trigger for the ignition event and is the timing angle control signal from the ecu to the ignition coils. If the ecu calls for 30 degrees of timing, this...
Getting used to the new scope and found this on the B+ line at the ecu. Car was at warm idle, minimal electrical load. DC+AC coupled probe with no freq limiting. Its a consistent transient.
DVM measured warm idle is a stable voltage of 13.8-13.9v even with a 30 amp load...
Few things bouncing around between the ears..
According to the attachment, Stock 440cc injector coils saturate at 2.3-2.4 amps. Theoretically this current would never be reached.
3 ohm resistor pack in series with 2 injectors at 2.9 ohms = Rt 4.45ohm (ideal)
voltage across resistor pack...
In the middle of planning for a headlight/foglight rewire using relays. Im probably splitting hairs here. Would it be advisable to to vary the size of wires used to produce a voltage drop that is consistent at each light?
12ga wire at 6a/14v and 6 ft would drop 0.11v to the passenger...
What keeps the front subframe with a polyurethane bushing from riding up and down the crush sleeve?
The crush sleeve is roughly 1" longer then the bushing. While the crush sleeve is bolted to the car body, the bushing is not and is free to pivot up and down if enough force is applied.
Am i...
Just finished the front end bushings and found that the following 'generic' energy suspension polyurethane bushings work for our car.
Part # 7.6104G Bump Stops. (requires a small sleeve to fit over shock rod tip to hold it firmly. ID is just a tad bit to larger and wont stay at the top of...
Just got a set of bushings from DM made by energy suspension. They have a replacement bushing for the spherical bearing in the kits now. Instructions say not to replace unless the bearing is loose. Its a polyurethane replacement...
So with that little disclaimer in there, how would a poly...
Does anybody have the specs for a stock/stock replacement coil spring ID and OD at the top of the spring where it meets the rubber insulator? Assuming any mkIII specific lowering spring would work for measurements.
Searching for a polyurethane replacement for the stock rubber spring...
Hey guys I am embarking on the hunt for a "better" heat shield for the STOCK exhaust manifold. I found this fabric that can handle 1800F constant and 2200F intermittent. Its designed to be used directly on the exhaust manifold...
In the middle a refurb of the engine body harness and engine harness. The connectors I'm heavily considering for the body to engine harness plugs can take 20 amps. From my research I've concluded that the injectors CAN draw as much as 4-6 amps each. The only hold up is the power to the...
Motors on the stand.
Heads on and Tqed down.
Cams in and Tqed down.
Valve clearances within stock specs. .10-.11mm on this particular valve
Stock cams.
Stock valves.
Stock springs.
Timing belt NOT on.
No spark plugs.
I was filling the oil passages with oil to ward off rust...
my built motor has rod knock after 20 minutes and 2 miles of run time.. primed oil system and verified via oil pressure gauge and turbo oil feed. Had great oil pressure on initial start up, still do just sluggish compared to rpms. generic 5w-30 was used with new filter that was filled before...
Last bit of the build. It seems most have posted .8-1mm on the 7m. guys with 2jz's say 1.5mm is optimal for them. Who has played with it and how did it re act?
anyone know stock?
anyone know "optimal" ?
Fresh build under way, using wiseco pistons. These pistons bump up compression to 9:1.
Who is or has ran a bit higher compression with the stock ecu/piggy back setup? Outcome? Likes/dislikes?
Car is a street car, no plans for 30psi or race gas. 15-17psi planned for pump and 20-25psi...
Who has used UPS to ship to Canada? Ive read a few horror stories on line with additional customs fees etc.. that rival the cost of the product shipped. everything I try at USPS starts at $20 and goes up. Even envelopes for a measly 5 lbs. Any body have any suggestions on how to get things...
Just realized I may have added a few hundred $ onto my rebuild :)
After pulling the motor and trans, I one by one unbolted the pressure plate to flywheel bolts. I didnt loosen them partially, rather took one out completely and moved on to the next one. Then I moved on to undoing the...

Had bad would the block need to be warped to leak water between the head and block?
Fresh Toyota HG tqed to 75 ftlbs and it slowly leaks out. I can watch it bead up and trickle down the side on the exhaust on 1,2,5&6 and on the intake of 1. Head was decked. I didn't have a...
What is the proper way to pre load the arp bolts/studs before the finale tq down? I spoke with arp 3 times and got 3 different answers. First chap said to tq them down and not worry about the pre load. Second one said to do 5 pre load cycles. 3rd said to do 3 pre load cycles. One said one...
Motor failed a block test (finally!) after quite some time of in-consistent bubbles in the reservoir. There are 1" long cracks following the arch of the combustion ring. The cracks are right in the middle of the combustion ring. I'll get pics up tomorrow. All six cylinders have this. I...
One of the options on the maft-pro is to use Enahnced TPS. This takes the TPS signal and sends it to the ecu like normal. Once a set threshold is crossed, it sends an altered TPS signal to the ecu. You can set the threshold by either RPM, BOOST or BOTH. How fast it does the signal switch is...
