With regards to the original post, are you making the entire molded trim panel, or just the part where the speaker mounts?
To get that panel out, do you have to remove the interior trim in the hatch as well? Just trying to gauge the level of effort to make this swap.
Remove and plug the vac line to the booster. Then repeat your experiments. Be aware that if you drive with the vac line off, the effort required to stop the car will be way higher than normal, so limit your testing to the driveway.
The NE coil resistance is a little higher on the 7MGE (180-220 ohms) vs 140-180 ohms for the CPS. Not sure if this matters as I have not done this swap.

Doesn't add up. If energizing the clutch turns on the compressor then the clutch is fine, working as designed. You need to look elsewhere.

Keep going! You can get the bow out, if its less than 15 microns, but its not going to be an hour's job. You need to confirm flatness with a straight edge after you're done.

Sounds like you have no power to the B+ circuit of the ECU.
Quick check, with ign on, measure the voltage to ground at the B+ terminal. Should be 12V. If it isn't then the whole ECU system will be dead.

The most common failure is cleaning the sensor with throttle body cleaner. The solvent etches the plastic optics pieces and ruins it permanently.
Yours failure does seem different though. Have you tried to clean and tighten the pins in the connector?
