Gas prices, and something to think about.

Adjuster, even if there is 'some' truth in what you've said, it is just a 'venting' for your frustrations over the endless increases in fuel costs. I feel the same agony you do. But... the story is 'much' more complicated than you've shown. And the bottom line to all the dialog we may...

    temp controled elec fan q.

Everything fails sometime (musical notes here). That's how I've made a good $ living for, well, all my life. My saying is : "If man made it, its goona break down". Just go with "whatever floats yer boat".

    Auto Window Up & Down

Pull yours out and see if the plugs are the same. I found out on mine that you can't unplug the passenger door switch, cause then none of the switches work. They all have to be plugged in.

    Auto Window Up & Down

It 'might' work. The plug may be different. Pull them out and check if you can do it. I found out one thing, you can NOT unplug the passenger side wiring (on passenger door) because then neither window works. All the switches had to be plugged in to make either window work.

    oil leak question

I believe it is pressed into the block. I (me) would first try cleaning all around the outside with steel brushes and carb spray. Then I would use brake spray (leaves no residue) all around. Then I would apply some sealant, like permatex, around where the tube goes into the block. Before...

    temp controled elec fan q.

Don't use that, as it only works when the a/c is on. You can get a 'fixed' or adjustable thermostat kit that will power your new fan. They are about $50. You should also put a switch inside to ground the relay when you want to keep fan on. I put mine in one of the coin holder slots on the...

Auto Trans Oil Change Made Easy, MKiii

Is that how they do it at the dealer ? Or do they use the flush machine?? Cause next time I do mine at home (soon), I'm gonna try your method. I'll report back on what happens.

    Oil system maint.

The bolt has a big flange on it, like a built-in washer. I put a bead (like toothpaste)around the shank of the bolt, on that flange, so when installed, it will fill the small empty area between it and the crank end. Any extra will just squeeze out from bolt.

    Flex Plate

They do break, or crack, and usually make a clicking sound in the beginning. I've seen several. I believe its due to an imbalance in the torque converter. You can pull the trans easy enough, have a new plate lined up (but not purchased yet, unless you can return it if not used), and inspect...

    Oil system maint.

Go ahead and put a front crank seal in, and make sure the seal surface on the dampner is not grooved. If it is, you can have a sleeve put on at the machine shop, so the new seal won't leak. By sure to put RTV on the crank bolt, as they can leak oil from under the bolt head by running down the...

    Oil burning + funny starting

Sounds like the hard start may be an injector leaking down the pressure into a cylinder (or more). Then it takes more cranking to start cause the fuel pressure must come up. Before starting, the pump does not charge up the pressure in the 'on' position like some other cars.

    ASB rear speed sensor

I'd NEVER EVER go to the dealer in my town for work!! Way to many people have told me what rip-offs they are. If you need a shop, ask around town for the best brake shop. They will be able to solve your problem quickly, and fairly $$. Ask at parts stores that are older than 15 years (not...

    A/C Guys Help Me

Did the compressor come on after you put in the r134?? There are a couple of pressure switches that will keep it from coming on to protect the compressor. Did you hear any hissing leaks before you started the car ?? You will need to have the system professionally flushed, then replace the...

    timing belt

Quality....I'd say the $20 belt is gonna be less quality than a name brand belt, like Gates. But wait...I just did a google, and it seems that most, if not all, are coming from China now. They all claim to be made of the 'best' material in the universe, and will last longer than the "Star...

    charcoal canister

The little spring loaded door is there to ensure you use 'unleaded' fuel. The nozzle at the pump is smaller than on leaded fuel nozzles. Up until the mid '90's, you could still buy leaded regular in many states.

Auto Trans Oil Change Made Easy, MKiii

I didn't think that (shot) at all. I meant it to let 'the people' know that they better do it first. You're absolutely correct about the filter, as every day at the shop I talk to someone (with over 100K on the OD, that has never even thought about doing a trans service. Most people are aware...

    intake porting

I read an interesting article (maybe it was mentioned on this forum), that compared several air filters. The filtering, and the flow of air. The K&N (and I spent all that $$, too) was equal to the factory and WIX filters. So...why spend $$ on air filter upgrades if your not 'really' gonna get...

how long till fuel goes bad?

Right !!! Right !!! I 'just read' an article in "Underhood" magazine (for professionals, but I recommend it to all who want to know more about cars), that was about the octane boost additives evaporating, and separating, from the gas when it sits too long in the tank. And...how some of them...

Auto Trans Oil Change Made Easy, MKiii

All of the previous methods "assume" that you have replaced the filter at some earlier point, and are now keeping the fluid 'diluted' with newer so that it will remain 'fresher', and thus doing this, you will not have to replace the filter again, and not have shift or leak troubles. (damn that...

    vaccum line ???

I think you are talking about the metal tube (and vacuum hose) that goes into the 3" rubber intake piece from the AFM to the resonator, and down to the power steering vacuum assist idle-up valve. It is plumbed into the intake hose to have a 'clean air' source so dirt does not get into it. You...
