Thanks Weezl.
I went back and re-checked some things. The damage on the bottom of the rod caps is 4 marks on 3 of them, and 6 on the rearest one (one i removed). The oil pan does show signs of being hit upon re-inspection. It has some slight scoring for 2 of the rods. The other 2 rods are most...
Well I had a low tapping noise, and I assumed it was rodknock so I'm looking at the bottom end to check my clearances and whatnot. I want to see if it's fixable or if I might as well get a new engine. I've never done this before, so I need a little help. I have been taking pictures of everything...
All I've ever heard from people who teach themselves to tune is "you blow up alot of your own stuff before you get it right." And when they use the term "popping engines", you know its going to be expensive.
So in short, seconding drjonez: find someone who knows what they're doing to teach you...
I did my school about an hour north of Melbourne, but they host it lots of places. There's cheaper ones too, for just a few laps and whatnot.

That's cool you got to see a Turbo-A, I never saw one :<. The f250 must have looked like a monster truck haha.
You can tap into one of the IC pipes connected to the turbo if you really don't want to drill the turbo. Make sure it's as close to the compressor as possible though, the problem is your reference being at the end of the IC system as mentioned. Personally I'd just suck it up and drill the turbo.
Before you spend $200 on new seals try this. Go buy some silicon spray lubricant. It softens rubber seals and whatnot. I sprayed my old seals with them and it worked great. Not guaranteed, but for the $2 its worth a try.
Hehe it turned out like 4X longer than I wanted. There was just so many cool things to take in, I got excited when remeber it all.
Corrections so far:
-The first pic of the Hilux with the snorkel is a Landcruiser not a Hilux. I don't know why I wrote it was a Hilux.
-The Toyota from the...
*Note I copied this from a post I made on a local car board. I realize there are real Australians and Europeans here. If you have any comments or want to elaborate on things I may have got wrong, feel free. Thanks.
I just got back from a month of backpacking through east-coast Australia. I...
Yeah I removed mine last weekend and the torch was the only solution. I spray painted the old threads to see how far in they were, that way I can get them back in close. I'll still be doing an alignment though.
Hmm..... I go away from the forums for a month and look what I miss. Is it too late to come lend a hand? I'm free Fridays-Sundays. Looking beautiful Jay!
Well I started tearing apart my supra last weekend. If I have a date set then maybe I can get motivated to get it running by then. I will show with or without my car though. If its ready, I'll defintely be down to dyno. Been waiting like 6 months to put down my 400+.
Well I have a spare engine to build up but it won't be done for a long time. I'm slowly gathering parts as my budget allows. In the meantime I'd like to not drive around a supra with rodknock. This is not my permanent solution, and its not a daily driver so please don't tell me how cheap I am...
Reminds me of a quote I heard on Horsepower TV
"whether you like going straight, or turning left .... somecompany has the right parts for you"
Of course that may just be true in the south.
I live/go to school in Birmingham but I spent this summer working in South Carolina and Georgia. I'm back in Birmingham now and I'm hopefully done working out of town. The supra developed rodknock so its parked at my parents house for now. With any luck I'll get a chance to fix it over thanksgiving.
