Just a small second mortgage on my soul.

But you do not ask the correct question....Which is....

How much money have you spent on your car and has it been worth it for the time that you have owned it?

Time in my car = PRICELESS! Worth every penny as is evidenced by the big silly stupid grin on my face every time I am behind the wheel!

It never fails to put me in a great mood!

I've owned mine for 22 years now. Original owner.

I have an excel sheet where I set up a table with the following columns, Part, manufacture/seller and cost. There is also a "Total" box and I cringe EVERYTIME I look at it....18,375 in ONE year.

Plus, I am still not do, just saw the diff is bad, plus I will paint the car and change the molding and bumper to 89+.

You will NEVER get back what you put into it when it gets that high...

suprarx7nut is right though, compared to even a brand new shitbox economy car, the supra is actually pretty economical. might not get as good gas mileage, but the money saved from not having monthly payments more than covers the difference.

Invest isn't the right word! More like thrown away, squandered or wasted.
Count it all joy my friend. ;)

First, I can say that I'm safely over that.

Second, there are folks with well over 50k into their car, *not* including the cost of the car.

Third, adding this up leads to stupid decisions - like selling your car, for instance. Never add up the cost of your hobbies.
I always say that owning a Supra is a test of determination, futility, and frustration. It will draw all of those things from it's owner. :p

I'm nearing close to 10K on wiring, hardware and tuning. Good "investment" imo haha. A financial adviser would tell you otherwise!
You ever known a financial adviser that doesn't bore you to tears? I haven't...

I'm not adding things up, but I would guesstimate somewhere around $15k (+ cost of car). Most of it fixing (and doing it properly!), very little of it upgrading. Though I guess fixed is an upgrade from broken...
That's certainly one undeniably true way of looking at it. :)

This is just one of those questions you DON'T ask a Supra owner.... :p
Kinda like asking a chick what she weighs... just don't.

My girlfriend spends more on her Mazda3 than I have spent on my Supra, even though we've owned them nearly the same amount of time. By the time I am done with swapping over all the good bits to my 87 shell, I will calculate a list of all the "potential" costs of what it cost to build mine. I used to keep track, but quit after the 7m died a spectacular death. I was a bit torn up over the whole thing, especially knowing it was my own fault, so I didn't wanna really see just how much I spent on the whole thing. Let's see, off the top of my head:

Car/shell: $2000
engine (+mods)/trans/clutch: $4500
interior bits (cage, speakers): $1000ish
extra sets of wheels and all tires paid for: $1500

So, all in all, probably somewhere between the 9k above (that's ignoring the 7m related stuff, assuming I had started fresh with the 1j build) and 11k overall. I still look at it in the light above, I don't have a car payment, my insurance is dirt cheap (even full coverage), and I have the ONLY Supra that is a daily driver around here. That last part alone makes it all worth it to me.

To sum it up though, my short answer would be...

TOO MUCH!

Just shy of 15k between all 4 of them. Not a drop in the bucket compared to the big dogs here.

I'm hoping that by 10K I'll have something that looks like 10K was spent on it.

I would have to say somewhere around 12k on this supra. I got it with 30 thousand miles on it though and the cost of the car was 7k. Im not counting gas and oil changes and stuff in my total price.
