The threads on a couple of mine were in really bad shape as well.... It's not a matter of OEM bolts being poorly made, but you've got to admit, depending on 20 year old head bolts definitely isn't playing it safe.
Well at least they know some of us by name. :naughty:
I'm seriously going to have to look into a MKIII desk chair after this... not only does this thread remind me of that occassional twist, but it keeps reminding me how much more comfortable my car's seats are... ugh.
Sweet! The output shaft's oil seal is pressed in from outside!!! Oh, sorry... I just need to replace mine.
Good job with getting the washer apart, most of the members on here would probably have said to hell with it and taken it to a shop. Now the question that remains is: Can you get it...
Which bushing are you talking about?
If you're referring to the one inset into the shift linkage, I don't see any reason why the old rubber grommet and metal sleeve couldn't be cleared out and a metal insert pressed in.
If you're referring to the shifter bushing, I suppose it could be...
I'm sorry, I generally try to give everyone a lot of leeway, but in this case if you can't fill in the gaps you might want to *seriously* consider paying someone the $30 to do the job.
The two best options for flushing the block are:
1) Feeding clean water into the heater hose which connects...
From looking at my TSRM, you should be able to remove the shift lever housing without removing the extension housing. Have a look at the reassembly steps. ;)

Yeah, it's common. My driver's seat does it... dunno about the passenger seat. The seat is positioned by a worm gear. Vibration gradually allows the gear to move in which ever direction it's free to. Since you sit against it it's not going to move forward. ;)
At this point I think of it as an installment plan... by this time next year I'll have an entirely new car (excapt for the original VIN tags). :icon_conf

It's not the best picture of the damage, but it is visible. I suspect the stock shifter bushing disintegrated and the shifter beat the hell out of the inner sleeve for several thousand miles.
To your knowledge was the car ever run without a shifter bushing? The ball the bushing snaps onto might be worn down and it might account for the shift linkage being battered.
The replacement bushing Sl1deways suggests *may* last a good amount longer. However I would try to smooth out any...
