Yes there's a formula but you need to know a few base dimensions such as piston dish and combustion chamber volume to work it out!
Give me a few minutes I'll see what I can figure out using an online calculator.
Dunno if it's the same there but here by law it must be centre or right of centre! (I'd guess left of centre there)
Might save a ticket if you get a Knob Jocky Cop..
If it's excessive yes but most if not all motors will have some and this is why Toyota engineered such a good ventilation system for our motors!
Always amused when someone decides to outsmart the factory ;)
(Worst case scenario is too much crankcase pressure and leaky seals)
It's the actual length between the Uni's this allows the shaft to whip, this in turn hammers the Output bush in the trans to death and doesn't do the front pinion bearing in the diff any favours!
We have a few new cars on the market here that have long one piece DS's that are speed limited to...
I run a tall 5th and low Diff gears and this combination gives a high shaft speed when driving fast, single piece DS's have a lower critical speed than a 2 piece and can vibrate and whip as Uni Joints don't travel in circles but more like a figure 8.
For my application it's not something I'm...
Y13: Less weight is going to help and ACross isn't sustained high speed so the aluminium DS should be fine!
Can't really say though I guess it's going to depend on how much traction you get off slow corners!
It's not so much the ultimate HP it's the Tq/weight of the 7M/Mk3 combo that tears em up!
My 30 was making it's 9psi pretty well off idle that and a few blasts in the low gears = grumble grumble :(
