I assume you're referring to All DATA, the vehicle servicing information database. Other than that I'm as clueless as can be. Fwiw I happen to have an AD compact disc for the MKIII and it's not worth anywhere near what they want for it. You'd be better served by reading the TRSM, or whatever...
One of us is confused. Code 42 is for the speed sensor. Code 41 is for the VTA portion of the TPS. Both are easy to resolve. 42 will not effect mixture to an extent that it'll effect performance. With the TPS stop messing with ohms and start measuring voltage on VTA at the ECU. The ECU doesn't...
California AB 616:

Requires all vehicles 15 or more years old to have an annual emissions test effective July 2008. Passed a few weeks ago. That said it was killed (for this year) just a few days ago. I missed the update until I was checking for you. Sorry for the...
It should never need cleaning. In over 20 years I've never cleaned mine. 99% of those who try do so because they mistakenly think it's at fault. Best to leave it alone other than an occasional wipe down of the housing and karman pillar with a clean dry cloth. Even that shouldn't be needed unless...
It's caused by what you said. Assuming fuel control is working in this car it's usually associated with a maladjusted TPS combined with an exhaust leak. The dashpot can also contribute. Overly rich open loop mixtures combined with exhaust leaks will cause it too. Lean mixtures with high HC is...
Relax, you were clueless before. The TT had nothing to do with your AFM problem. You're a victim of post hoc fallacy, also known as questionable cause. And if cleaning the AFM was the dumbest mistake of your life I envy you...
Backfires are induction events. They have nothing to do with the exhaust system. What is being talked about in this thread is afterfire. Also called muffler explosion.
Not sure what you mean by "leak air" but the VSV for the EGR is a normally open three way valve. That means with the engine off the path (ported upsteam of the throttle plate) between the TB and the EGR modulator will be open. The ECU energizes the valve (connects it to atmospheric pressure) to...
An ignition scope is really the best tool for these kinds of problem. Scope the primary/IGt. Then the secondaries. That way you'd know which direction to go ie; if the problem lies in the ignition system or ecu.
The whole thread makes me chuckle. My general policy is to ignore threads that contain the words parents, mom, dad, or school but I couldn't resist this one.
Some of those rules are truly stupid but we're getting only one side of the story. They pale in comparison to what should be imposed on...
Indeed. In fact the visual is the easiest part to cheat on. Other than using an entirely different car or a can of calibration gas there isn't a way to tamper the tailpipe test. And just think, come July 2008 you'll have to get tested every year instead of every two...
The timing and 52 are unrelated but since there isn't much point in driving the car with a 52 I'd get to fixing it if I were you. And you'd better hope shaeff doesn't see this ;)
1-5-3-2-6-4? Off the top of my noodle that can't be right. In a waste sparjk system the companions can be determined by placing the lower order plugs over the higher order. In your example that would make plugs 1 and 2 companions, which isn't how this engine is set up. Be sure they're paired up...
