The only time a fuel filter change would be a bad thing is when the person changing it out is skill challenged or doesn't have the correct tools to perform the job properly.
I suspect a few of the recent fires have had this as a root issue.

For really high road speeds your combination is in the danger zone.
Low Diff gears high OD % and a motor that will rev lands you a possible starved pinion bearing and at speed it only takes seconds to become square.
If you're serious about going fast I'd look at plumbing a pump and cooler...
With the gearing I was running then it was only turning high 5000's (motor would rev to 8300 easily)
