Nah you shouldn't have to remove much to make them fit.
Just be sure to break any sharp edges with a file or a stone/sandpaper to prevent stress risers.
They live in Oil so rust isn't an issue, I'd smear em with the Moly just in case there's any delay in starting it.
If it were me I'd grad a m12x1.25 bolt chuck it in the Lathe spin a couple of nuts on and turn the Diameter down enough to fit.
I'm not sure of you have access to a machine shop, the guy that did the head will probably have a Lathe though.

If it's leaking to Oil I wouldn't drive it at all not even start it.
If it's leaking to combustion you can get away with undoing the rad cap to the stops so it doesn't over pressure and just take it gently refilling as needed.
