Josh: It's really nice to see how SM has matured in the last few years!
Seems to be all the members are more concerned that you guys are ok first and then worry about the car second (as it should be but it wasn't always like that here)
Air is evil! ;)
Too many points of potential failure when relying on Air to keep the valves in place!
For instance in a multivalve engine like ours you get all cocky and pop the spring off one intake and decide to pop the other off to save time.....
As you pop the 2nd set of collets...
I have a crescent wrench or two ;)
My point is a comp HG isn't the instant fail that everyone makes it out to be just as a MHG isn't the fix all everyone seems to make it out to be in a 7M
Either done badly WILL fail.
Nylon will work ok :)
You just want something that isn't fluffy/fuzzy so it doesn't leave crap behind when you pull it out.
Rememeber NOT to go nuts on the breaker bar on the crank you just want enough rope cushion to stop the valves falling in.
Yes but if ANYTHING goes wrong that head is coming off :(
Done this in the past as as a security blanket I pull the piston down a bit and carefully feed some good quality non fuzzy rope into the cylinder then gently bring the piston back up to TDC. (safer than using a compressor)
Keep it out of detonation and it won't fail.
I used to run 30Psi on my old tt 3.4L Toyota V8 in the 240z and never suffered a failure as it NEVER skirted detonation.
Tune on the ragged edge and you're asking for trouble on any gasket as the stronger the HG means you're just moving the...
Mine has far more $$$ in it than you can imagine, it's reliable smooth and powerful and in no way shape or form would I ever do it again with a 7M.
I could have easily had a 1K+rwhp 2J with full suporting mods for what I've spent and had a damn good slush fund in case anything went wrong...
