Turn the crank so the cam lobe is pointing up away from the valve then slip a feeler gauge in starting at say 15 thou decreasing till one goes in with a nice slip fit and that is the clearence for that valve.
Repeat for all 4 valves and let us know what you find.
Before you pull the head check valve clearences.
If they're tight remove the cams and plug the compressor back in and see if it changes.
You can further isolate it by pulling the manifolds plug the compressor into #6 and block the ports to see if it's leaking by the valves.
Yep all sounds good so far!
Personally at this point I'd pull the head and reseal the HG as I described earlier in the thread keeping your bud and his toy torque wrench away from it ;)
When you're testing with the compressor are you turning the crank to bring the piston to the top with both cams facing up for each cylinder?
(just checking)
The Oil looks fine just dirty?
Can you tell us exactly what machine operations were done on the block and head?
It's bizarre that you can hear #6 leaking into #4???
Marc: Ever made salad dressing?
Oil and vinegar shake them up and they mix let it sit and it seperates.
Oil and Coolant do the same.
If it's not seperating out I'd guess that the Mocha colour is just filth, varnish and crap from...
Yes but coolant on the HG doesn't explain why only 1 cylinder was so far down on the Comp test hence the leakdown test so we could see if it was maybe a valvetrain issue.
It's no use tearing into it to correct a suspected leaking HG if it has a bent or badly shimmed valve.
No the compressor is part of the diagnosis steps.
I outlined the sequence the other day and with everyone jumping in and posting steps have been missed. (ie: did any coolant seperate from the oil)
There is a method to my maddness but I need the info asked for.
Really needs to be a full fresh air system but a good respirator with the very best elements they make will do if it's a well ventilated area.
Make sure you have NO exposed skin I mean 100% covered, I wear a balaclava and safety goggles, gloves and overalls when painting with it.
Yep and the shit is VERY toxic so extreme car needs to be taken using it!
I was painting my 240z many years ago and a bud walked in to have a look, he hit the floor and another friend dragged him out into the fresh air (I was in the middle of a metallic coat so couldn't stop)
Turns out he...
