    Cup holder mod

There's a local guy here that works in a plastics shop. He's made some that replace that compartment in the console. Very handy. My '89 had the ones in the compartment, but since I keep stuff in there, they're not useable.

    0.50 bored over?

Mic the cylinder bore, but unless the engine's had a major rebuild, 0.50mm overbore isn't likely.

    In-car removal of oil pan

WTF?! Thinking about it though, it might also be a good time to install the SS brake lines that I bought...

    In-car removal of oil pan

Heh. Well, as I said, the plan is for this block to be in the car only until the new one is ready. From comments, I don't expect it to be a walk in the park (and if I did, I'd have never asked about it in the first place, I'd have just done it) but I think that I can lift the motor 8" or so...

    In-car removal of oil pan

Well, I still don't plan on a complete removal of the engine, but I'll see what happens. I don't mind lifting the engine a bit, but I'd really rather not disconnect the PS, AC, starter, and a lot of other things that I'm likely to overlook. I'm sure that there are people who can do this is a few...

    was this worth it?....

It's kind of the same reason that you can go buy a $50 video card for your computer, or you can buy a $500 video card for your computer. Both will do exactly the same job for 99% of users out there. You certainly will never see a difference for surfing the web, or even playing modest demand...

    In-car removal of oil pan

I'm giving up hope of having the new 7M built and installed before the snow flies. As it sits, it's knocking. Pretty sure that it's the rod on #5, though it might be #4. So here's my idea. Slap in new rod bearings so that I can maybe get some seat time in, and get the car around to a few...

    7M Turbo Water Cooled

It's true that it does do so, but that's not it's purpose in a water cooled unit. Any circulating fluid which is cooler than combustion will perform some cooling duties, but in the case of a water cooled turbo, like the CT26, or my Turbonetics, or the OP's ATS, I would not expect that it would...

    7M Turbo Water Cooled

All turbos need oil, but the 7M turbo isn't oil cooled. The oil is there as a lubricant, not a coolant. The water is supposed to handle the cooling job. Remove the water, and you'll have crunchy carbon grit instead of oil in your bearings in no time. some turbos are oil cooled, and don't need...

I guess this guy really really wanted a Celica Supra MKIV.

"People always ask me if it's a Supra" I bet that there are a bunch of people out there that see him light up the front tires, and assume that Supras are FWD.

    door lock linkage jammed

If the rods are jammed you might be in trouble. First thing to try is the power locks. Lock, unlock, repeat. The power lock mechanism is closer to the actual lock than the toggle is, so it might be able to manipulate it where you can't from the toggle. Next thing I'd try is removing the door...

    Head bolt torque specs?

Factory head bolts are supposed to be good to 72 ft lbs, and that's supposed to be adequate. They are not degreed, since they are not torque to yield, like DSM or Honda head bolts often are. For example, the Neon that I just replaced the head gasket in this summer was torqued down, then...

What does it take to go E85? Advantages/Disadvantages?

I was told that alcohol was a bad fuel for turbocharged vehicles back in the day because it tended to burn hotter. Alcohol enhanced fuels were blamed for a lot of scorched valves, as well as detonation due to hot edges. Colder plugs were routinely recommended as well. Add in the fact that those...

    7MGE air intake help

There are several available MAF conversions. Replace the AFM with a hotwire MAF or the like. Advantage: Less restriction on the intake. More power. Disadvantage: Not much more power. Bang for the buck factor is quite low. Much better if you couple it with a header and larger exhaust.

    7mgte vs. 7mge

As noted the head is identical, with the exception of the intake cam. The block has some different oil passages drilled for oil squirters and for the turbo oil feed and the like. GE pistons are 9.2:1 compression, GTE pistons are 8.4:1 The 7M block has 3 bosses for knock sensors. The GTE has...

Fast, Cheap, 7M-GE HP without a Turbo?

I did a fair amount of looking into what could be done with an NA car, and cheap isn't in the equation. Bang for the buck, N2O is it. Cams might be able to help some, but it's limited if you want to carry them over to a turbo build. 1mm oversized valves can also be carried over, and will help...

What does it take to go E85? Advantages/Disadvantages?

Yep. Less power with the same amount of fuel, but the idea is that with the detonation resistance, you can burn MORE fuel, and thereby make more power.

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

To bypass the factory alarm you ground out the hood pin switch. This tells the factory alarm that your hood is constantly open, and so it never arms. It's often used when the door key cylinder switches stop working, but they're not too hard to fix. Any locksmith can take care of locks. Actually...

    Coolent loss and overheating problems

Block test is a cheap way to test for BHG, but it's unfortunately likely. I don't agree with jumping to that as an immediate conclusion, but since the 7M is pretty solid otherwise, it's one of the common issues with the engine. Any coolant loss will cause high temps, and mayo in the oil cap can...

Differnces in GTE & GE (Alt, PSP, starter, pullies, AC compress etc ANY ASSESORIES)

Limiting to belt driven accessories, for my '89, the PS pump was the same, GE v GTE, but with different reseviors. The alternator is different. The GTE alternator is rated for higher amperage. There are also 2 different regulators, but this doesn't seem to be GE/GTE related, but one will work...
