    7MGE air intake help

Where is the dyno sheet to back this up? Timeslips? Placebo effect is alive and well. I never trust subjective measurements, even my own. Because it "feels like" it pulls harder doesn't mean that it does. It might sound louder, or maybe you just think that it SHOULD pull harder, and so that's...

    7MGE air intake help

Just some food for thought... I've seen actual numbers posted for with/without the intake resonator. Anyone who says that it's "just to reduce noise" hasn't done the measurements. There is a gain in power from having the resonator and stock piping vs mandrel bent metal piping. There's even some...

What Clutch should I buy for my R154?

The problem with eBay parts is that you don't always get the same thing as what someone else got, and sometimes quality control is widely varied. For driveability, I'd still recommend a stage 2 kit, like Driftmotion's stage 2 kit. Of course it's up to you as to how to spend your money.

What Clutch should I buy for my R154?

If this is the case, then a stage 2 clutch is a better fit. That is an upgraded pressure plate with a full face clutch disc. This will be much easier on the street compared to a 6 puck, and will still hold 300 WHP easily. I have a stage 3 clutch, and don't have problems with chatter and...

    350?????

@Nick: Of course there are many other factors there, particularly what was or was not done on the hot side of that turbo, and I'll admit that I'm thinking more in terms of what the turbonetics 60-1 that's bolted to my manifold is capable of. Re SF link: I'd argue that 15-16 PSI has surpassed...

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

Ticking can be a lot of things. I can't really tell from that video myself. Exhaust leaks can sound like that. Injectors can be a bit noisy, could be valve train noise, too. Get a mechanic's stethescope (Or use a long screwdriver held to your ear) and localize the noise a bit.

    350?????

I had .005" taken off the block, so the 1.4 should have been fine, but my pistons are 9:1, so... I'll also be pretty close to 9:1. Anyway... Start with a stock, but solid 7M-GTE, so that's stock pistons and rods, metal head gasket and ARP head bolts or studs. 57 trim turbo upgrade, supported...

    350?????

Does he also have the throttle body, the throttle cable parts, the alternator relocation mount, TPS wiring harness extension lying around at no cost to you? Of all that, where the actual benefit is is the throttle body, assuming that you're getting a larger throttle body on there. Maybe the IC...

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

Stock FCO on stock electronics, you'll be fine. Those manual boost controllers are pretty simple, don't know that I'd pay what they're asking for for that particular one, when there are $20 eBay ones available that do the same thing. (Or, you can make one for about $10 with Home Depot parts...

    Test run engine stand

Just don't forget pieces usually left under the hood, like the injector resistors, ignitor, etc. I don't like the idea of leaving the cooling system dry. The 7M has enough issues there that I think that it's worth doing something to keep fluid in the system, though I might just use a piece of...

    Electrical guru needed!

I didn't think that the ignitors were different, but I do think that there's something different with the gauge calibration. I don't think that the needle is off. It reads low, but it will come off the peg when cranking, which is much less than what it typically reads low by. I hit the rev...

    Electrical guru needed!

I have an '89 NA. I swapped in an '87 GTE, and have had exactly the same symptoms with the tach. I'm using the '89 face, but the '87 driver board. I've been meaning to do a more thorough diagnosis. The tach circuit is actually a pretty simple one. It takes voltage from the gauge fuse, and uses...

How much does camshaft overlap affect cranking compression?

You still should never have your intake cam open during any part of the compression stroke, as this introduces the possibility for LOTS of problems. Even if it is for a split second, it would be right at the edge of the cam lobe, so it's not even full flow. If your cam timing is off enough to...

How much does camshaft overlap affect cranking compression?

Unless your intake cam is late, so that it is still open at the start of the compression stroke, your cams should have zero effect on compression. Cam overlap is all at the exhaust/intake strokes. Compression testing is all the compression stroke. The cams should NEVER be open during the...

    Door panel mod?

I've talked to enough people willing to spend stupid amounts of money on "audiophile" wire to trust my ears, that's why I use actual measurements.

    Door panel mod?

And where you you get this data from? I ask because I was unable to measure any distortion with some excellent instrumentation. Comparison was with the door panel completely off, so nothing blocking it at all, and then with the door panel back on, with the 4" grille between the speaker and...

    Door panel mod?

There is no need to use a larger grille, except cosmetics, and IMO, the '91-'92 grille doesn't look like it was properly designed in. The 4" grille won't block ANY sound from the larger speaker. You would need to be able to cut metal, and make a new back plane. You would need to replicate all 3...

Is an Mkiii the right car for me?

For the record, I would say the same about anything that I'd term a "sports car" (Which ranges from a Gran Touring to Muscle to factory race prepped.) Particularly one that's 20+ years old. All of these cars require maintenance, all of them will have unexpected expenses pop up. Sure, I was a...

Engine Will Not Shut Off When Key is in the Off Position

Well, mine keeps running, but that's because it's supposed to, so that the remote start "knows" that I didn't leave the car in gear. You sure that you don't have a turbo timer or remote start installed? :p (Gotta ask the obvious questions first sometimes.)
