Well, I found a better crank. It's cut 0.25mm (0.010") on the mains and throws, but is in otherwise excellent shape. I'd really hoped to have everything assembled by now, but... C'est la vie.
Ordering the bearings from Aaron at Driftmotion, who says that they'll take a couple of weeks to get...
You are aware though that the stock intake resonator actually makes more power though, right?
I still have a K&N Drop-in in my garage, which I used while my car was still NA. That filter was very nice. Never used it after going turbo though.
Heh.
So I guess that I can add that I knew that I was in over my head with the idea before I found out how far over my head I was. :D
And yeah, I like my sig. ;)
Well... Here's the kicker.
The knock sensor isn't just an on/off thing. It is in essence a microphone. As you might imagine, there's a lot of noise while the engine is running. The ECU filters that noise for certain frequencies, which mean "knock" and reacts accordingly.
I also looked into...
I bought the Arias pistons myself.
Haven't installed them, but the block is finished at the shop, anyway, I have to go pick it up, but waiting for bearings anyway.
That crack in #3 is scary. I guess that definitely proves that a compression test won't necessarily show you that things have gone awry. I imagine that there are BHGs out there that aren't as big as that crack.
Not without replacing the bracket, but since it's a very simple bracket, there should be no reason at all you can't. At a guess, I'd say that you could probably even fit a 5.25" speaker in that location, but for anything larger than a 4" I'd really want some sort of enclosure.
The factory...
At one point in time, I had a 3 way set of 6.5", 4" and 1" in the doors of my Mk3.
I sold off the 6.5" enclosures a few years ago. (They replaced the map pockets at the bottom of the door.) since I was planning on making nicer 6.5" enclosures for the doors, but I haven't actually built them...
'86.5-90 fronts are 4". '91-'92 fronts are 6.5"
86.5-'88 rears are 4.5", but 5.25" can be made to fit. It's not an EASY fit, but it works. If you're not up to doing some cutting and making stuff work, you're best off sticking with 4" back there, too.
'89-'92 also have 3.5" speakers in the rear...
If your brakes are fading that easily, I didn't think that the pads should do that. Even really old pads (Not that mine ever get to be old) should be ready to handle at least one high speed stop.
Check the condition of the brake lines, and flush the fluid, then try again. Brake fluid that's...
Well, at some point the fuel feed and return must span the gap between the engine and the chassis. How is it significant if that span is between the fuel rail and the pressure regulator, or if it's between the regulator and the line to the tank? I'd think that it's the line between the pump and...
This.
I have stock replacement Brembo rotors and good tires and have no problems being on the edge of the anti-lock for a good number of consecutive stops. This means that the weakest point of peak braking is still the tires. With the good semi-metallic sport pads, they'll last long enough...
I didn't tell her that it was a $10 hose. I told her that "It's broken, and it's just as easy to replace it with THIS one."
Besides, blown coolant hose on freeway = overheat, which meant that it wasn't likely to be a simple matter of replace hose, refill coolant, drive. Also, after 500,000+...
I was originally planning on a 400+ WHP build, and was going to do stock pistons. Then I was looking at the NPRs, and while I believe that the NPR pistons COULD get me where I wanted to go, I ended up buying the Arias forged pistons, but this is because I know myself well enough to know that if...
