James' 89 Supra Turbo

Looks like a very clean truck to start modding. If you make a build thread on T4R and/or show your satoshi mod, I wouldn't mind seeing it. Good call on the mods so far, and the mudflaps instead of running boards.

Your MKIII looks clean also, especially with those front signals. Sweet picture, looks spotless.

I'll definitely post some pictures of it when It's finished. I'm hoping it comes out good, I've never done one before. Right now it's just got the center cut out and I'm waiting for a warmer day to go ahead and paint it. Unfortunately the lettering I am going to put on the front of it won't be off back order until sometime in January so it won't be fully finished until then. I've got lot's of stuff I want to do to it, but the cost's add up quick. Especially with a Supra to play around with too haha. Thanks for the compliments on the Supra, that's one of my favorite pictures of it. One of these days I'm going to get a build thread put together for the Supra, and then one for the 4Runner too hopefully.

I'm impressed with how quickly this build is moving and I like that you are paying attention to the little details like I do too. Have you thought about getting a dashmat to protect the new dash in the car? I've contemplated getting one, but I'm not sure how it would look. I had a very light layer of ceramic tint put on the windshield to help keep the sun rays off the interior to help preserve mine.

As for the cowl and wiper repainting I would suggest using SEM "Honda Black" bumper coater. That's what I used on mine, and I used it on the wiper arms and spoiler on the 4Runner and they all came out good. Here's a thread I made on it with my results.

Wow, this is going to be one hell of an example when it's back on the road. Well done!

Thank you!

Post the link when you get the thread going. Where I live, we don't have weather, it's painting time any time. Honestly, the 4Runners are cheaper to own and mod than Supras, but then again that's if you're not doing things like bumpers... Damn, I forgot how much time it took to get those things... could build a nice motor for that kind of money.

Thanks for the compliments, honestly I thought it was moving pretty slow especially since the motor is still in it. I have a dashmat that has turned purple, going to get a black one. One day I'll go into tint and such.

Good tip on the SEM, I have been using SEM products for years. I painted my old car entirely with SEM trim black, my 87 4Runner's top/wiper arms/bumper plastics, and my 99 4Runner's flares/spoiler/cowl/wiper arms/rear bumper/rock sliders.

Got 3 cans of SEM Trim Black 39043 in the garage waiting for when I feel like getting started on the Supra. It probably won't even require one.

Trim black on my 99 4Runner's cowl, did this back in 2011.

SEM color coat landau black, GREAT for interiors. Lots of my 87 is done with this stuff.

Black hardtop... been meaning to do the door frames and B pillar trim, those are the last remaining unpainted black parts

Got a set of door panels. The passenger one has an armrest in excellent shape compared to mine. The driver's one has good parts like the carpeted portions, but has a huge rip and larger speaker.

Some dimples in the vinyl from the shipping, can pop those back out from behind. No cracking armrest like the old panel.

The driver door panel vinyl in my car isn't pretty, still looking for just the right panel to replace it. In the meantime, I took the carpeted middle and lower sections which are less faded.

Yeah, I've kinda run out of cheaper things to do to the Supra for the time being. I wish bumpers weren't so expensive, I really like the way a plate/hybrid bumper looks on the 4Runners. All those painted pieces look great. The issue with painting here is the humidity most of the year. It'll turn your project into this nasty gray color... I actually picked up some more SEM paint yesterday to paint my grill with, I love that stuff. My dad and I used it to dye the interior of his 69 Torino GT also, and it worked great. 1 can should be enough for the Supra, I know I didn't use more than 1. The more I see your first gen the more I want one haha. I haven't seen one in this area in forever. They are becoming a rare breed, especially one in good shape.

Every couple days you seem to have an update, that's why I said it seemed to be moving quickly. The door panels are looking good, it's a shame that the speaker sizes didn't line up for you to use the vinyl in better shape. I was finally inspired to make a build thread for my Supra. It took way longer to put together than I was expecting, but it's finally done. Here's the link since you requested it.

Your car is very nice. I am quite impressed with its cleanliness. I like your style, and definitely look forward to seeing your posts around the forum. It seems Toyota owners find 4Runners and Supras to go hand in hand, the best of both worlds IMO.

Got my targa top back... again... still not happy with the color. I've decided to put it off for now, but I'm going to get the top and bumper redone by a proper body shop. Lesson learned... do it right the first time, you get what you pay for.

Last, a friend bought a new 4Runner TRD Pro, I cut this from the plate frame. I like it, looks like an old school Toyota logo.

Trying out a new interior photography method... inside the car with the cover on. When the interior's all ready, I'll do a nice shot showing the seats and center console, etc.

Evidently, the car has had a motor rebuild before. The head has helicoils on the exhaust studs and has been cleaned before. Pulled all 6 plugs and it is evident that the head gasket blew on cyl's 5 and 6. Hoping no water leakage!

I was lucky to find this - a brand new OEM MKIII logo. Recently these were completely out of stock from Toyota, a local had it in his garage all these years after selling his MKIII.

The progress looks good! Nice score on the exhaust. I've heard great things about that exhaust. I laughed at the "bro lean" picture. I see so many trucks like that every day, and I still can't figure out why people think that looks good...

Thank you. I have also heard these exhaust systems are on the quiet side. around my area, too many cops with nothing to do. a super loud exhaust would be a bad idea. I am going to do my best to keep the car looking relatively OEM.

If only they pulled over more bro leaning truck drivers for things like absurdly bright HIDs is in halogen housings.

That's one of my biggest pet peeves. I get irrationally mad when I see people with HID's in halogen housings, or when they're driving their stupid diesel farm trucks to school and "rolling coal" on the little cars next to them purposefully. I'm not a huge fan of that whole crowd though...

I've heard before that a heat gun works well for straightening the OEM front bumper lips. I haven't done it myself mostly because I don't have a heat gun and I'm too lazy to go buy one, but it may be worth a try. I was able to get mine fairly straight by just straightening the OEM bracket, but it still isn't perfect.

I'd really like to get my hands on one of those lips with the brake ducts. Might try the heat gun, but like you, it's kinda nice after a little straightening of the brackets.

CT-26 57 trim... got a little beat up in shipping, should hopefully be fine after switching the coolant lines and adjusting the actuator a bit.
