Buying quality tools is always a good thing!
I started years back just buying small handtools when I could afford to and now have a great fully equipped workshop here at home!
I still have my Tq wrench I bought when I was 14! (damn it's 29 years old!) ;)
JT: The Lands are what the ring sit on and pushes down, if a motor detonates sometimes they snap off!
Even if they don't snap they can squish down this traps the ring so it can't expand against the bore and you get low cylinder pressure!
A really bad case is when someone has used a ring...
Best case would be dead valve but I still think it's collapsed the lands :(
DrJ makes a good point about running a comp test after break in, this will show any problems before they become BIG drama's (I mention this for any of the guys with reading this as it's too late for JT).
Big hassle...
Malloy: I don't know if it's the case here but over the years mine did the same with the stock rotors, I'd have them skimmed true and after some high speed work back to crapola!
The only thing I found that worked was to use a torque wrench on the Lugs (The tire store thinks I'm insane as I...
I'm sure someone out there has some hard data on this so yep it'll be interesting!
I would imagine if the stock GTE drops 35hp then the 1000hp motor would lose the same 35hp.
MTT is correct here!
I use the 33% premix as we don't get freezing temps here (seen snow here twice in my lifetime) So I can get away with the lean mix!
(The premix has the benefit of being clean distilled water as some tap water can contain contaminants)
My PC is watercooled and when I...
The shocks in our cars aren't actually "struts" they're coilovers and don't have much at all to do with steering loads!
Listen to DrJ it's a 50c fix :)!
Pillow blocks and so on won't do a whole lot as the shock doesn't turn like in a Mac Strut front end!
Does anyone have any hard numbers on the loss through the drivetrain in a Mk3? ie: Crank HP V's RWHP.
I've read often that it's 15% but don't think that's right my thoughts would be it's a given number not a percentage as I can't understand how a stock GTE would lose 35hp and a 1000hp monster...
DM: When you start the work post a thread in Tech as a running log of your work as I said it'll be interesting to follow the progress no matter how long it takes! :)
Pioneer: The pad for the Turbo drain is on the NA block it's just not drilled and tapped!
I did mine and it was a PITA as you can't just drill straight in, I used an 8mm bit drilled in about 15mm then turned the block over and drilled a connecting hole from the bottom.
I then opened both...
LOL yeah half water to half coolant concentrate!
I'm using Tectaloy 90+ it's premixed 1/3 coolant 2/3 water.
It's one of those cases where more isn't always better!
