There's no hard/fast rule it's more a "feel" thing that changes from car to car a good driver will adapt quickly and get the best from a particular combination.
ABS and non ABS use different speed sensors I believe the ABS one is either a Hall effect or a proximity sensor 14 pulses per revolution (a bit sketchy on the exact number but I know the ECU translates this to the stock pulse per rev) and the Non ABS is just a reluctor 1 pulse per revolution.
Brent: LOL yeah don't have that problem anymore but 9 years of the 10 I've owned the Mk3 it was Manual ;) (and a HUGE % of the cars I've owned have been manuals)
AJ: Correct it works well for Turbo cars where having the engine spinning fast mid corner helps it get back into boost sooner, if you try and get back on it too soon it really upsets the balance mid corner....
Totally different driving styles depending on the motor, for example I used to...
Dreams: Still wouldn't make a whole lot of difference ;)
The rev match makes life a bit easier on the syncros once they're engaged it's all good (try 100 mph 5th to 2nd and you'll find their limitations though)
Sin: Say I'm playing on winding roads I'll be using 3rd/4th a lot hammer up to...
<old man hat on> You kids don't know how good you have it with modern cars in my day......... ;) <hat off>
A lot depends on how you're driving the car just plodding slowly around town method #2 is fine and won't really hurt/affect anything, it's not like a 7M is a high comp motor that will...
The topic is a guy that wants to use an existing header NOT race motors....
What I said is correct in this context.
I asked the OP to measure the AREA of both flanges to compare them.
I guess that is rocket science...
If the nozzle in the Turbine housing is the point of greatest restriction you can have a flange the size of a trash can and it's not going to make more power.... it's not rocket science....
I made 550rwhp with a T3 flanged gt3540r how was my motor "really choking"....
Look at the area of the Nozzle in the Turbine housing it's MUCH smaller than the flange area......
What 935 says is the better/ideal solution but the OP may not want to go to that extent.
Don't know about there but here they add benzine and other things to the base stock to bump the octane up to the advertised levels and being extremely volatile it does evaporate leaving you with a tank fullOknockNrattle.
And we ALL know how well a 7M responds to being rattled....
