one vendor on here does stock rebuilds for right around a grand, send him the blocks. JIS motors does bottom ends for $5-600 with a warranty. I dont see how you can make two bad = one good with out machine work which...
Im not taking offense, just making sure we understand each other ;), the condition you provided as an example will not be affected by the 12v mod at all. The ecu is still going to run stoich or a bit richer regardless of the fuel supply in closed loop.
^ if your detonating at 25-3000 rpms something is wrong. PTB i can see as things are in closed loop (think EGR delete), not at open loop though where there is more fuel being added then stoich.
e-85 would be my vote. although a dedicated tune is needed with the fuel flow to back it up.
Stepping above pump gas makes a piggy back a weak tuning device. Like jdub said, the WHOLE power band needs to be tunned for it. Standalone or leave it alone with pump gas.... your never going to get...
if your going to do it "right", a standalone is and should be the first mod. no way in hell id push 550+whp with out better tuning then a scaled stock ecu...
the ONLY thing i noticed from the 12v mod is a tad higher psi at idle vac on... thats it. No tuning issues, no switching issues and no scratching my head wondering what the hell was that type of thing (before the mod). I did it to increase fuel pressure at idle since i have to drop PSI so much...
o2 codes is 21 and is ONLY the heater circuit. code 25 is a lean condition. The ecu can not add enough fuel to keep things within its desired parameters.
I never had an issue with the switch over as my turbo doesnt come online till well after 3000rpms, yours may differ...
uhh does the car need the fuel? wot AF ratios indicate a slight drop in PSI would put you back at an optimal 11's range.
Understand your vf's are probably in the tank...
yep, fuel pressure at idle has to be in the gutter to get anywhere near 11's at wot for me too. The pump has way more fuel then the sp61 needs at pump gas boost levels...

mine doesnt make a squeal or anything, just a WIRRRRRRRR at a HOT idle that can only be heard if the windows are up and music is off. You have to really listen for it too

a 7m head is a 7m head. There is a local shop that does rebuilt heads for less the $500, if yours is trashed, kepp this in mind, (JIS motors)
If the mani is actually smoking with NO residue on the OUTSIDE, its leaking. Greasy hands move this part and handling that will tend to provide a smoke show until the oil/residue is burned off.

^ i agree but have managed with out for the last few months (life,baby,etc..) I cut out cardboard boxes that fit the cooler perfectly and on the colder days (less then 50F) i cover the cooler....
Other wise ive noticed no difference in operating temps (warm up time) or when oil pressure...
