2JZ manifolds are connected together as there is only one wastegate. If you want to run in true twin on the 1JZs separate manifolds, you would need to add a second wastegate, hence the need to replace the exhaust housing. Alternatively, you could modify the 2JZ manifolds to fit (lots of work).
