Genuine 77's aren't round so even if you clearence them correctly they're going to leak more Oil than a regular bearing.
It's a Moot point as Clevite don't make 7M bearings these days.

The holes are open at idle when the pump is struggling to maintain pressure and they do make a difference.
G series Diff's have a bit of a habit of eating the Pinion bearings Ken, I've killed 2 this way myself and the genuine bearing is quite exe to replace.
A 7/16th Thread roll might also be an option for soft heads as it will harden the material around the stud and a stripped m10 hole should he close to it's drill size.
(this is off the top of my head I'd need to confirm with my tooling supplier)
