    I think LHD must change something as the RHD line pressure cable is ALL on the cold side..... Dunno on the cable length either, back to the RHD/LHD thing.

    Cable "should" be all on the cold side? You have to drop the pan to swap it out.

    Line pressure cable..... bit confused how it got anywhere near the exhaust? Bit of a pain but it can be changed in the car.

    House freezer doesn't get anywhere near cold enough to make them brittle.. Add to that you're reducing the crush fit so less force is needed to get them in and I can't see it ever being an issue.

    Usually have to dress the edge of the hole where it's been peened over before you fit the new cup or you risk damaging it's edge.

    Don't pound on it and it should keep going for a long time, puck clutch probably hasn't helped it any as the tend to engage hard. Maybe dump the thickest gear oil in it you can find to quiet it down some...

    I repaired a w58 many years ago and the cost was a joke..... Better to replace if you can find a 154 in good condition.

    That's the LOUDEST I've ever heard it but it sounds like what I described earlier. The snout on the mainshaft is hardened it's not very deep and in 20 years it wears through, this makes the grumble when idling in neutral with the clutch out as the mainshaft sags against the cluster shaft...
