Either will work fine it's more done to the surface prep, Cometic are usually cheaper, also ALL will fail if detonated hard enough so don't assume just because an engine has a MHG it's BHG proof ;)
Not many shops are equipped to line bore/hone a 7M so I wouldn't assume that's the case but yes by all means pop the caps and check for damage and at least plastigauge it before pulling the head (sort of assumed that was a given but then again the fact it wasn't picked up between the machine...
Covers all the basics nicely Kai but it assumes the trans is in good condition to begin with, no sense in doing all the pressure mods on a tired box, also don't agree with the line pressure cable mod that was posted in there if it's still there, makes 0 sense.
