1) Just get a spring compressor. You'll thank yourself.
2) Save and do the shocks/springs at the same time for two reasons. 1) no need to do the same job twice, 2) your stock shocks will fail VERY quickly, and the car will bounce all over the place.
3) Here's a great writeup on how to do it all...
You'll get mixed answers, as some cars will settle more than others depending on how many miles are on them, etc...
Take a look in Jeff Lange's FAQ's about model/year changes. He might have that information in there someplace.
Your belt didn't slip, did it? Is the tensioner in good shape? If it's bent, the motor won't stay in time.
Or, did the bolt for the CPS just loosen up, and maybe it turned a bit that way?
Is the cam/crank timing still perfect?
Lots of people's cars aren't in that nice of shape, especially on the undersides. The tabs for the eccentric bolts tend to bend over, which is why everyone should clean them, bend them straight, and run a bead of weld behind each one to prevent it from happening again.;)
