It's all in your tune. Can max the 57 trim out with no problems as long as your tuned. 1 good detonation with stock pistons high higher boost levels and there toast.

Is the cable hooked up?

Pull the door panel off and put power and ground to the motor. Connector off and on motor side. There's 2 pins. Put power to one and ground to the other. If nothing happens flip them around. If still nothing happens then the motor is shot.

Autos are mech speedo as well. Speedo will work like normal.

If this did that before as well 2nd gear syncros prolly toast. My r154 does this as well but i can drive without doing it. Mostly downshifting it will grind.
