Not speaking from experience, I would say the clamped fittings would leak long before threaded ones will, also clamped will loosen up over time much more/faster then threaded ones will... I have to imagine they weigh more as well.
Even if the program does only take a small amount of resources, Vista takes an UBER MASSIVE HUGE amount. So while it may run fine on the lean running win2k, Vista even with double the ram I would question.

That is certainly true, but probably won't fix the leaks.
On another non-leak related note, if this car doesn't have an engine undercover you really should get one.
On the topic of leaks, I think you need to trace back where the leaks are coming from, you pointed out where they stop running...
Heater, and Intercooler will not impact anything that severely. A clogged radiator would not have instantly made it overheat like you described.
If the cap checks OK, and you've got a nearly dead hole... well then its a BHG. But I won't jump to conclusion just yet, haha.

It shouldn't have. There is virtually no pressure on the overflow line.
Easiest way to see where it is should be right after you have had the car up to temp (driven for at least 25 minutes) and shut it down. Plenty of pressure in the system while it heat soaks and should show you the problem...
