    Damper

Did you say you took out some clutch parts?? Is the flywheel exposed? If so, you could wedge a prybay or very big screwdriver onto the teeth to hold the crank from turning. Holding the crank still is one of the hardest things to do when you are using breakerbar on bolt.

    What is this?

PCV system. It purges the engine crankcase of oil and fuel vapor. Its a must have, and a good for your engine thing. You could get one of those aftermarket 'catch cans' that the next poster will tell you about.:icon_bigg

    87 n/a wiring question

Radio noise suppressor. The alternators and other electronics can give out tiny frequency interference. This reduces and/or eliminates it.:biglaugh:

    Damper

Impact gun, 19mm socket. Or...19mm socket and breaker bar. Position bar so it rests on ground or frame or use a big prybar, then hit the starter with the key. The engine will turn in the direction that will break the bolt loose.:biglaugh:

    Aftermarket Intake Manifold...

SimpleIcon, the V-8s you are referring to are carberated, not fuel injected. The intake runners were "mazed" inside so that the fuel/air mixture would travel approx. the same length, thus obtaining a reasonable idle and power balance. Me...built several muscle cars.

    Driveline vibrations

Whenever you take a driveline out, you are supposed to mark the flanges so you put it back in the same place. If you didn't, you'll be 'out-of-phase'. It means that the factory balanced the shaft(s), and had them in the correct location. If you put it back in 180* off, your balance is out...

    U joint bad?

They do go bad. We had one car come in the shop with 2 bad ones, and the drive shaft had already been replaced 3 years earlier with one from the boneyard. There aren't any grease fittings, so eventually they dry out. Last week an '86 nissan truck came in with an engine dying problem...

Is anyone here from around the antelope valley area

Over the past year I've had 4 MKIIIs come into the shop, usually for a smog test. It just made me sick to see them in such sad condition. The people would see mine sitting there and say how nice it is, and how they wish their's was that nice. I tell them to leave it with me, and I'll make it...

    Driveline vibrations

Its designed like that to keep the front shaft closer to parrallel with the body, so there is less strain on the front ujoint by keeping it straighter.

    U joint bad?

I tell all my customers to bring any car they are thinking of buying down to my shop to have me or my mechanics look it over before they buy it. Better to know if its a good deal BEFORE you buy it. Most people buy a car, then bring it in for the smog test, and thats when they find...

Is anyone here from around the antelope valley area

Lancaster, but it wasn't me, cause I blast around in my red '89 as a daily driver. As you probably already know, around here, I seem to be the only one with a MKIII that really appreciates them, and knows what I've got. Everytime I see one, and that isn't very often, the driver looks like a...

    Question on my spoiler....

Well, then, NOW, after this interesting debate, and with too much time spent searching, I do concede. It appears spoiler was not part of the sport package. BUT....I sold vehicles at Toyota (and Dodge) from '97-'00. I ordered cars from the factory with option pkgs, and I ordered them with...

    Fan always on

Normally, a fan clutch will be 'stiff' when you first start a cold engine. You will hear the fan for a few minutes, then it will loosen, and the fan sound will die down. It should stay like that until the engine gets very hot, about 3/4 or more on the gage. Then the clutch will lock up, and...

    Fan always on

Dear Spun MKIII, it seems that some of these fellas aren't reading your first post. No sensor is involved with the fan clutch. Sometimes they just plain go bad. Either locking up, like yours, or never locking up (freewheeling). Loose ones will cause over-heating.

    Auto tranny questions!!!!!

Well...that's a weird one. It sounds like when you put OD on, the oil pressure is being diverted to the wrong area. These trannys are computer controlled, so it may be in the computer. Maybe sending wrong signals somewhere.:icon_conf

    Fan always on

Yep...gotta re-read that first post. He means that the fan stay on, meaning that it is heard, and pulling alot of air, all the time the motor is running. He drove the car for 30 min. and he could hear it pulling the whole time. He did not mean that it stayed on after the engine was shut...

    Question on my spoiler....

The article states spoiler added for 89, THEN it goes on the mention additional changes for the turbo model. I read an article that said the 3 piece spoiler is only offered on the turbo, and the one piece on the n/a, for 89.

    Question on my spoiler....

You have an 88 I presume.... Quote from article....The '89 model had a minor make-over: cosmetic changes include a different front bumper cover, rear spoiler, and tailights. The turbo model also recieved 2 additional horsepower and 8 lb-ft of torque from a redesigned wastegate. So it...
