Yep, you've got it right! Not sure what made to difference for me but having the drag rims/tires turned my car into a completely different Supra. The rear end was so 'floaty' and squirmy, then on the top end it swayed a lot *SCARY!!!*
I absolutely agree with the experimentation being necessary...
First question I have for you would be what fuel are you using? Pump/race gas needs less injector than an alcohol fuel (E-85), but you also need to realize that knock will limit power output with the pump gas more than injector sizing does.
Additionally, fuel injector size does not determine...
Looks much like the Ebay manifold. You'll have to double check the fitment, iirc they didn't clear the stock turbo brake booster without modification.
I don't think the Q45 TPS will play nicely with the stock ECU, so you'll need an adapter.
As for the alternator drop down, you need to decide...
Very interesting, I would have figured the overall sensed ratio would have been majorly messed up by the catyalyst's ability to store and release oxygen, or at least more than that.
Might explain why my tuner was OK with tuning E-85 cars to 12.5:1, rather the more traditional 11.5:1, but maybe...
I agree with that, but never understood why they were able to do so. I know the cats affect the way post-cat oxygen sensors respond, but didn't know how that could affect tuning the car using exhaust tip sampling.
I didn't have any catalytic converters so it made no difference where the sample...
I had mine angled slightly toward the trans (~10:30-11 o'clock). As for the harness, I tucked it behind the speedo cable shield to help ward the wires from heat and zip-tied it there for security.
My gauge is where the ashtray once was, so all the wires run through the engine wiring harness...
You are correct, you want a pre-catalytic converter position for the wideband, if you completely knock out the OEM pre-cat you'll be fine, but don't place it behind any cats.
For anyone interested in what Powercruise was for me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i7J-5t9G4U&list=UUcSb1GKidTTz8VAT6tG_1Vg&index=1&feature=plcp
Most of that is one day, and it was only the cruising sessions- there's a ton of other videos on Youtube of the powerskids and drag racing and...
Brad, when you're at the track traction changes so dramatically its not even funny. I couldn't get my 235's to spin in gear on the street (rolling into a spin) but I couldn't hold any boost with them on the track. Same story with my 275's (street tires for both). Put the drag tires on (bias ply...
Yep, lots of companies don't care, they are just making a part. Some people have luck running widebands close like that, but I would never do it if I had the choice. You can cut a hole into your downpipe and have a shop weld a bung in, that's just fine. 10-12-2 is a good area to stick around...
The general consensus that I've come to understand is that for every inch of downpipe diameter, the wideband should be 1 foot away from the beginning of said downpipe. (i.e. 3" pipe should have a wideband 3 feet away from the turbo exit)
This isn't set in stone and you have some wiggle room...
I will say Proving grounds is a ton of fun if you're into Drag racing! Lots of practice, and competition! The guys that did the road course thought it was a great deal, but I might suggest going to Powercruise (at Brainerd) in July if you want cheap road course action- 3 days of awesomeness!
At the ~400-450hp I was at, I was doing 4000 on the 2-step and slipping it out until I felt confident in the traction. I could have been more aggressive, but it was the first couple times down the track with the Supra. This year should be a bunch of fun!
Its the Aluminum flywheel inserts that weld to the feramic clutches, not the olid steel flywheels. If you plan on drag racing the car, stick with a solid steel flywheel (stock/chromoly/billet/etc). Also, always try to overbuy on clutch when you're drag racing- its torture on a whole new level...
Spec 3+ is a full faced clutch ;)
A guy local here (user name 92nsx) is runnign a sock PP and clutch disc at 408hp/370tq
here's his dyn graph with said clutch:
A lot is how you drive the car- Rob drives like a grandma and when he boosts he doesn't shift aggressively/no lift shifts. It...
