I would put a spacer on and run it on the frame rail then under the head light thats what I did on my gt35r I welded on a 45 elbow on the end of the compressor outlet packaging is smooth as well the shortest path youve gone this far to make your engine bay clean whay ruin it with a big ole tube...

Monitor your fuel pressure that will tell you what your FPR is doing or not doing also I HIGHLY doubt its the FPR its a VERY simple unit I leaning towards your Fuel pump it more likely to fail before the FPR even a new one what brand and where did you get the fuel pump theres china pumps going...
OK do some basic testing first check your fuel pressure this will tell you if the FPR is leaking or faulty are you sure you are refering to the FPR? pics please
factory unit or aftermartket? very vague question, the diaphram may have torn or a have a hole Ive heard that china copys use very poor material which fuel will eat over time
