Did he check the structural integrity of the head? A brand new 7M head should 116mm tall from the cam deck to head deck, make sure there hasn't been too much material removed. How do the water jackets look? Corroded? clean them up if so. Look for any visual stress on the head. I suggest getting...
Why exactly do you want to put a lot of money into a non turbo to only see small gains whereas you can go turbo for less and get more back? Are you just wanting to be different than most of us?
Don't worry about the cams or cam journals, don't clean them up just like the quotes stated, that part of your head will be fine. I'm guessing the guy you took it to that said they didn't look good doesn't know much about a 7M head huh?
If you install reverse gauges, you have to take off the needles in your instrument cluster. Doing this will most likely put them off when you reinstall them, why do that? Have you tried looking into the threads on how to change the back lighting to LEDs of your choice?
So, did you buy the JDM with the MHG and ARP hardware already installed and just slap it in? or did you do a full inspection on th engine and replace what was needed? If not, then I'd say those JDM seals (possibly cam, or crank seals) are leaking just as bad as any USDM seals would ;).
Why do I get a funny picture of John having his arms wrapped around 18 quarts of motor oil, hunkered down, looking this way and that frantically to make sure no one sees him hide his stash? LOL
Too much stroke compared to the bore. A stroker kit will not last you very long on a 7M, it will wear out the pistons/cylinder walls fairly quick. You want to have an engine where the bore and stroke are as close together as possible to make it last.
Wait, wait, wait. You pulled the head off just to make sure you didn't have a blown head gasket? LOL, there are testing kits you can make up to check for a BHG that which would have costs a lot less than what you are going to have to spend now since you've already done it. Might as well take...
^That helps too. You will see a better gain off of all new intercooler hardpipes that the stock setup, plus they will be less likely to leak when installed with quality couplers and t-bolt clamps.
