Anyone think of a good reason the 1j wasn't put in USDM Supras?

Thanks for the info! I'd always read/heard similar things but wanted to see if anyone else had something to add.

    7m or 1jz

clips are going to be relatively expensive no matter where you go.. A lot of people went that route back in the day (a few still do), but due to that and the move in Japan to crush many of the older model cars and motors in their junkyards (there was an incentive IIRC) for space/etc has led to...

Inner Fender well/ Fender skin removal.

I'm pretty sure they're welded together as I.J. said.. when we were rolling my fenders, a buddy and I actually discussed this.

Anyone think of a good reason the 1j wasn't put in USDM Supras?

glad ya liked it! haha I think I agree with most of what you said, in addition to, what I said about Toyota wanting to race in the same class as the Skylines.. All very good points IMO. Still, it seems the 1JZ had too many drawbacks for a release in the U.S. versus Japan, where most the...

    2JZ-FSE into a Mk3??

Well, I really would love to see that motor utilized, I'd even like to see it used an an N/A race motor. But a lot of folks won't even try the VVTi motors despite the advantages.. I wish I had known more about them back when I did my swap, there's a great chance I would have tried and enjoyed it.

Anyone think of a good reason the 1j wasn't put in USDM Supras?

True, plus the 7M totally went with the whole Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme at the time too, you know, all the green ooze coming out ;)

cold start not in open loop/ fuel pump Q

I'm hoping someone else with better trouble shooting skills than me answers the question.. I apologize for my relative lack of knowledge on this issue.

    2JZ-FSE into a Mk3??

the motor has basically no aftermarket support at all aside from whatever components you can use off a regular 2J. plus, they were never released in the U.S. in the first place, folks can get away with 1Js and the like because they happen to share most of the same parts and tech with the 2J...

    2JZ-FSE into a Mk3??

11:1 iirc the head design alone would probably be enough to keep folks from wanting or trying to boost them.. it would just be such a far reach from the original intentions of the design (IMO). one can google this and read plenty on the subject.. basically, they are neat motors that have...

cold start not in open loop/ fuel pump Q

I hear my Walbro prime when the key hits the ACC position. my car never raises its idle much for some reason or another (1000 start up/ 800 warm), even when it's cold outside, though that may have something to with the tuned ECU/AFC.. when it first starts, it's somewhat rich ~11-12, and then it...

    2JZ-FSE into a Mk3??

I'm all for innovation, but unlike something such as the VVTi motors, I see little point in doing this.. unless you have some other reason to do so.

Retrospect seems to be on this. then again, I guess we'll have to see how that goes..

Anyone think of a good reason the 1j wasn't put in USDM Supras?

awesome, I kept wanting to pose the question of whether or not they were designed side-by-side, but I couldn't figure out if I wanted to ask.. I always felt the 2J was not neccessarily an "upgrade" of the 1J but instead built for a separate purpose altogether.

Anyone think of a good reason the 1j wasn't put in USDM Supras?

with the comments I've heard over the years on the boards, I'd say they were definitely on to something there.. I agree with everything you said, but I have a few questions. why do you think they even bothered with the 1J in the first place? was it the taxes in Japan in relation to...

    ***The Black Supras Thread***

okay here's what happened: I was lazy, and the sun was setting.. so, I went in and grabbed the D90 and took a few photos and so forth, but after drying it off there was still enough light, and the car looked quite a bit better.. it was slightly disappointing, but it turned out alright...

Is there anywhere that does ecu map tuning??

there was a place out west (IIRC) that was discussed on here a while back that would do the daughter-board tune for the supra ECUs, but it was so expensive that there was little to no benefit. plus, if you change anything, it'd have to be retuned. standalone FTW.
