FIG]67305309Well, that was an expensive lesson. My mechanic pulled the pistons and they are all good. No cracked ringlands,broken rings,,pistons or anything except the rear blown turbo. What I am thinking is that the massive cloud of smoke was from the turbo and the reason it...
They were rebuilt with steel wheels, Im just hoping that this is not why my engine was bogging and died. I will know in a couple of days cause I told them I want to remove the pistons and check for cracked ringlands.
Got a motor with stock twins, came from an automatic car with 2 row ecu like the jza70. During the swap I told the mechanic to swap the stock turbos with my rebuilt ct-12's but the back turbo has about 1/8" radial shaft play both cold and hot side so looks like thats a no go.
Went to the junkyard yesterday and the only two IJ's are a VVTI without a cam cover and no ECU and a non vvti under a stack of other motors without an ECU oil cap (dirty inside) and no cam or coilpack cover. Since it has motors on top I can't see around the back to check the turbo side. The VVTI...
Tried a run to the mechanics for the leak down test and made it about 10 miles then the engine bogged and died. Started and would run for about 5 seconds then bog and die with a big cloud of smoke so whatever was bad finally gave and got a tow to a different mechanic, now looking for another...
Just retested with engine warmed up (smoked) and results are:
1 = 180
2 = 172
3 = 170
4 = 175
5 = 180
6 = 170
I had the thottle open this time but only had one spark plug out at a time, don't know if that makes a big difference.
On a side note, I called my wife in the USA and in passing...
Results of compression test done engine stone cold.
1 = 140
2 = 140
3 = 135
4 = 140
5 = 140
6 = 135
#1 and #2 at first would go up and down to 0 then would hold. I'm thinking once they got oil it stayed.
Some would slowly leak but the tester I have has an oring on it and since the...
On the way home from work this morning it was pretty smokey in boost, revving, letting off, will do a comp test this week and if its bad Ill source another motor.
I had just installed my in cabin manual boost controller and it was adjusted too high. Under boost it shot past 25 and had some crackling. I was mistakin about it running good. Yes the idle is fine but it also blew the pcv valve so oil smoke constantly. Went to the dealer to get a 2J valve which...
Well the choice was clear for me today. During boost my car started missing and had a bad miss at idle with some smoke coming from the tailpipe. Upon inspection of the spark plugs (Denso iridiums) the number 6's porcelain completely separated as shown in the second pic.
Put the old NGK BKR7E's...
+1
You can check it with the motor off, just open the TPS and let go, if it slams shut then either your dashpot diaphram is shot or it needs adjustment.
The plug has 4 wires used so verify they are connected properly to the right places. The extra wire was connected to the noise filter,don't worry about it, cap and stow it if you don't have the filter.
