I ground down the flange for the housing and manifold to give a bit more clearance for the drain line.
Be careful not to clock the turbo too far - I think Garrett recommends a 15 degree maximum deviation from straight down to facilitate draining. Failure to comply can cause some leaks out of...
I would suggest that she talk to a different Air Force recruiter then. The AF has a guaranteed job program where they will sign a contract. If you dont get that job you can get out - no strings attached. You will get the job.
Sometimes the position that you may want isnt open, but you can...
I assume you are talking about the oil pump drive shaft. Chances are it just needs to be polished. The tolerance is very tight in there and the slightest bit of roughness wont let it in.
I had the same problem. It wouldnt go in until I polished the shaft
Ive been getting a lot of questions in my PM about this so I thought I would explain everything.
The manifolds sold on ebay dont really have a brand name. They are made in China and marketed by different vendors here in the US. This is the one I got:

I would just go with a standard journal bearing turbo. The spoolup characteristics are marginal and you can rebuild a journal bearing. Plus, they are much less expensive.
I just picked up a cheap ass Raven .25 today at the Spokane gun show. I usually carry a Taurus .45 but for reasons I wont get into for simplicity I dont have it available right now.
Hopefully if I ever have to use it, it wont just piss the bad guy off.
Im going to go look for some lightweight...
I saw that thread - it didnt really seem to go anywhere last time I checked in 2007. Did they do any real tests for a gt42 vs a BW wheel of the same size?
Basically, yes.
But I want to be clear that Im not saying that all of the other turbos are bad - some guys are getting satisfactory results with their China turbos or Brazilian made Master Power......
For a shop to tell you that the turbonetics "version" of the GT35 is actually better is...
Seems to be some basic misunderstanding about turbos in this thread so I will make an attempt to clear it up. Here is a copy of a post I put up in another thread.
And here is another section from a different post
I went down to their shop today. Good guys - very knowledgeable and honest. I needed a turbine wheel changed on my GT42 and they turned it around quick for a good price. Clean shop and they certainly know their shit.
Turbonetics and Perfomance Techniques are two different companies. The...
just get a clean bucket and open up the bottom drain on the tank. It takes a 3/8" ratchet and should be quick. Once all of the fuel has drained out (if you keep the tank level while you do this) all of the junk should be out of the tank. You could get a couple of paint filters from a paint store...
Jay - you may not be able to tell if your turbine was damaged by looking at it from the outside.
I just found out today that my turbine is jacked. It looks like a piece of slag or something came loose. I thought I got it all off before the install but I guess not..... Time to find a new...
Jay - I dont know if you have done this yet, but you should probably take off your exhaust housing and look at the turbine blades before you use it again.
