    Need help with 1.5jz build

Jay, all we need to know is the deck height of your pistons and the CC volume of your head. Then we can figure out your quench height and you can figure out if you want to use it.

    Need help with 1.5jz build

Yes, it is there on the GE head because the piston goes a bit closer to the head on the GE block. The measurements will tell him how much quench he will have, not just how much he has reduced it. Once again, we are back to square one; it simply needs to be measured before being assembled...

    Need help with 1.5jz build

If you look at the GTE head and the GE heads the combustion chamber is actually recessed on the GE head to give a bit more quench area for the pistons on the GE block and thinner head gasket. So that is why I was wondering if somebody has a pic of the 1j head. My bet is that it looks like a...

Make sure you check out the www.cygnusx1.net website if you havent yet. Almost everything you need to know about your supra is on there. I dont really recommend using a dremel tool. It doesnt have enough surface area on the bit so it can cut in really easy too far and it will take longer to get...

The quench on a 2jz ge vs gte is also determined by the head that is on the engine. The GTE head does not have a recessed combustion chamber but the GE does. With the GE block I think you will end up with a deck height near 0 or slightly over. Well, you dont really know the quench area until...

    Most respected machinist in spokane?

Sun West engines in Medical Lake specializes in 22R engines and they have a lot of toyota stuff too. Unfortunately, they cannot line hone a 2jz head because of the way the back of the head rises - it goes up too far and blocks the bits for the line hone. Their shop is really clean too. I looked...

Right Jdub - he could order custom pistons but then he is back in the circle of building a motor (1k or so) vs. using a GE block (which he already has) with a custom head gasket. Also, before ordering the pistons he is still going to have to get the cc volume anyway. Measuring deck height is a 5...

Usually, addressing the second gear grinding problem can be put off by filling your trans with a good synthetic fluid like Redline MTL. It will make the synchros work better. You may be able to tackle this one yourself as long as you stay clean and organized. There should be a guide for it at...

You are going to need to know the volume of your combustion chamber and your deck height before you get a head gasket. http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34345&highlight=compression is the thread I posted about the piston dish volume. Yours should be the same but we will also...

Oh - one other thing. Were you able to tell if second gear was difficult to shift to? The synchros tend to wear out in the trans but I dont know if yours has the same problem. While you have the trans out may be a good time to replace the synchro for 2nd gear. It shouldnt cost too much.

I got my micrometers from harbor freight and they are just as accurate as all of the micrometers ive compared them to at my machinist. You could get a set of ID and OD measurement tools for under 50 bucks pretty easy. When you take the block to the machinist be sure to tell them what you want...

dont overtighten them or you will crack the valve cover. Thats why the stock valve cover bolts are actually phillips head screws. Very difficult to overtighten those...... If you have new rubber grommets on the screws and new gaskets under the covers and it is still leaking then your gaskets...

When it comes time to calc your compression ratio you can start a new thread and we will walk you through it. It really does make a big difference in overall compression ratio with little specifics like differences in head gasket bore diameter. If you just want a 57 trim ct upgrade you might...

The rubber grommets that go in between the heads of the bolts and the valve covers need to be spongey still. Did you replace those when you replaced the gaskets?
