There's a black metal plate that is held by 3 screws, which is attached to the actual plastic housing itself. The plastic where the 3 screws drive into the plastic may be cracked... Just take some glue or fibreglass and it should hold solid.
I have rust that is exactly in the same area as this pic below:
What gauge metal or thickness is that area? I would take a ruler to it, but I don't think I would be too accurate. Anyone know off hand?
Btw, the pic belongs to alias adampeusch, hope you don't mind me using it.
Thanks.
I live in the GTA area, does anyone know if there are some by-laws for spraying automotive paint in a residential neighbourhood. I was told that one could be fined up to $5000 if caught. If that is true, than I don't understand why places like Canadian Tire sell whole gallons of autmotive...
So you can't change the valve guides without taking the cylinder head off... Damn... Means I have to tear it apart yet again.
I know the downfalls of lucas and its effects. I'm just finding a temporary solution until I can get those guides changed.
Those were just changed with some cheapo ones. Could be them... but I highly doubt that... it smokes a lot on startup.. Lucas+20w-50 helped it.. but still getting the smoke.
Can valve guides be changed with the head attached to the block? I think they are the culprit of my smoke problem that I have been trying to hunt forever lies with the valve guides.
I agree with what you guys said above... the mechanic forgot to machinet the block's timing cover at the same time resulting in low compression in #1.
You need to purchase a leak down tester unit i believe
Wow... that was an explosion of coolant of the radiator!
Nothing wrong with the ebay kit... all the other gaskets are usable... just buy the OEM one and you should be set!
To all the people doing this roll and paint thing... I highly recommend marine boat paint... You will get more depth and shine with it! Or at least that is what I've been reading/hearing on other forums.
Yup. I've been chasing this problem down for over a year now i think... I'm like 90% sure i got some crack somewhere in the coolant passages either in the block or head.
I'm pretty sure its coolant loss now :( I'm burning it for sure... I marked my overflow tank the other night with a pencil when the car was dead cold and then ran the car for 30 mins.. After that, the overflow tank dropped 5mm :(.
So much for the BHG job I did.
When I say I left it opened. I mean I poured some oil down each combustion chamber and coated each of the cylinder walls with oil to make sure it didn't rust. I also put the cylinder head on loosely over the winter when I was at school. The car was inside the garage too. HOWEVER, I did leave it...
I did a compression test awhile ago and the numbers were pretty high. 175-180... this could result from my block and head being shaved twice. Also I believe carbon build up will give me screwy numbers that are too high! I'm running very THICK oil too 20W-50 + LUCAS. I've been battling hard start...
