It's an NA with and early year rear wing added ;)

That was quick. On a side note, has anyone seen an 89 N/A with the 86/87 wing? I noticed that one of the first few Supras I looked at had the square third brake light, not the trapezoidal 88 like what this 91 has. Was 88 the only year for that style?

On a second side note, I feel sort of stupid yet accomplished. Pre89s did not have the number "160" on the speedo, but 89+s do. The dash mark for it is there and bolded like the rest, but the numbers are not.

That's new one for me I thought wings were strictly for turbo car's I guess not

All turbos had wings, and some N/As, such as those with a "sport package". Same deal with MkIVs.

It's not all that uncommon to see '89+ n/a's with dealer installed pre 89 wings.

I've never seen anything 89+ but 89s with a pre89 wing

with the pre-89 wing, the dealer could avoid having to punch holes into the quarter panels - this is probably why the pre-89 wings were installed on the later model mk3s

Also they don't have to change out the taillight failure boxes...

It's not quite like the MKIV, because on the MKIV it was factory installed option. On the MKIII, (in North America), no N/A's came from the factory with a spoiler. If it has a spoiler, it was installed after the fact.

Chances are Toyota even had a different supplier for the DIO spoilers, and I'd be willing to bet that the moulds are slightly different if you get a chance to look underneath them side by side.

The first thing I noticed was the speedo. I thought all NA's had 140 and the turbo's had the 160. He could have switched instrument panels also. Do some NA's have the 160mph speedo?

Just to clarify, I've never been in an NA so I wouldn't know.

That would explain the slightly different looking spoilers on some random N/A MkIIIs. I think some, like this 91, actually bought it as a part from Toyota though.

I wasn't too sure on that either but I did a quick search on ebay and other places and all the '89+ n/a's I've come across have 160mph speedos.

My 89 N/A speedo goes to 160. It's an 89+ thing not an N/A thing.

yup, 89's got 160 speedos and towards the later years, tachs that redlined at 6250...

89.5s+ had 7M cranks which lowered the redline to 6250. These had counterbalanced cylinders #2 and #5, vs. the 86.5-89.4 which had 6M cranks (6M is jap only..5M head 7M bottom end) that didnt have that but had a 6500 redline

You can tell which you have by the tach

Actually 6M crank is 86.1 to 89.7, 89.8 and on had the 7M crank.

89.8 and on is 1990 model.

1989 and up have 160km speedometers, N/A or Turbo doesn't matter.

Not to be too picky, but the 7M crank is fully counter weighted...both the 7M & 6M cranks are balanced ;)
