Previous Owner didnt take care of mine. Rodknock and blow the motor on the highway after 900 miles of owning it, it sounded horrible but still drivable. I was supprised that NA made it all the way home 4 miles away and would start up right away with a blown motor. Bearings were gone, it was the death call. bang bang bang..... it stripped and junked.

4 miles?

I bought a rod knock parts car and drove it home 17 miles to avoid wasting a tow (since it's a parts car and I had no intention of fixing it)

I got rid of mine because it had lots of little problems and I had no time to fix them.

I still have my first car, which is a 91 supra auto and sunroof, but I'm actually considering ditching it. I got it without knowing what it was early in the summer of '07 with 76k miles and it lasted til january '08 when the powersteering went out. It took three weeks to get it back on the road for two weeks; BHG. I don't get it back on th road til the middle of that summer, and I got to drive til december 12 08; lady thought that, since she couldn't see the oncoming lane, that must have meant that there were no cars coming. she floored it (I noticed her car was leaned back) and i t boned her at 40mph:

Everyone I went to for help screwed me over. I had no idea of what i was doing. it took months for the police report because they misplaced it (they got annoyed of me for asking. also, they told me to take the car to a towyard and leave it there cus they would have the report in a week), the lady's insurance, statefarm, thought my car was worth $4700 plus tax, and didn't want to pay for the towyardbill. my insurance, progressive, didn't want to do shit. lawyers thought i had no case. other people also gave me bad advise and now I still have my car (kept it cause my 87k mile engine still runs, but needs a water pump, a/c compressor, some belts, etc) and I havent found a sutable replacement. i've searched craiglist every few days in every city in california for a 89+ supra since the accident (I wrote a html page to make it easier), autotrader, and vehix, but the handful that i've liked have either been impossible to reach them or i've gone out to see and have been very dissapointing. Should i fix mine, or ditch it? I figure the insurance payout would cover the straightening and parts, and I'd have to put up some of the money I saved up for mods towards paint.

Oh, btw I'm new here and I forgot to introduce myself. My name's Jaime (pronounced Hi meh, like the "e" sound in "meth" lol). I simply came across this thread and thought that I'd use my first post to ask mkiii owners what they thought.

Still have my first one, even though she tried to ditch me (was stolen).

Was returned to me 3 weeks later missing a whole bunch of stuff (see my build thread for pics), but managed to get her back on the road again after 9 months :)

My first one (87 turbo) went to the junk for 3 reasons, first a deer wanted to jump in the car, second a light poll was in a bad spot and third I wanted to upgrade from the 87 to a 89 body style.

Second supra (89 turbo) I sold in the middle of college because I needed the cash and didnt have time to wrench on her.

That's an ugly looking frame rail, that's for sure. I'd try to take the settlement, and buy back the motor. There are California bodies on here all the time I wish I could have. Get a truck and trailer, and travel a little bit if you have too. I just made a 1200 mile round trip (no sleep/non-stop) to get a very nice 92 body.

IMHO these cars are getting harder and harder to get. You should really try to save yours.

So why did I ditch my first one?

Simply put, I was stupid.:3d_frown:

p1343102_1.jpg

89 NA. I bought an 87 turbo as a donor to turbo my n/a then for some strange reason, the gay blueness of the the 87 mesmorized me and I then sold the 89 to fix up the 87, unbeknownst to me at the time that the 87 had frame rail damage.

The other two
p1343102_2.jpg

So I ditched it for the 86.5 n/a, turbo'd it and then fell for another blue beauty, which is my keeper! Look down

first one (90 red na hardtop 5spd) got killed by an idiot in a minivan. airbag went off and got written off by insurance. from time to time i regret not buying it back and fixing it but the money i got turned into my 91 turbo and i dont know if i would have had the time or money to get it back together like how it was before....

One of the previous owners apparently dropped the drive shaft, as can be told by the sheet metal being pushed inward. I always wondered why my center console never sat right. You can see the foamy type filling they used to fill the holes instead of properly welding it up:

The rust was right up through the shock tower on the front and back of both sides- you can see under the shifter hole in this picture as well- the stupid foam type filling they used to fill the hole where the driveshaft was likely dropped. It's a grayish substance.

It was a fun car for sure, but the rust issues were much, MUCH deeper than I had originally anticipated. I picked up a white 86.5 chassis, which now has a fully gutted interior and engine bay (paint), and very, very little rust. (none on the exterior to speak of, save for a tiny bit of surface rust, and the wheel wells are pretty solid.

I don't remember if I mentioned it, but I did take the money. Oh, and Statefarm said all or nothing, so I bought the car. I got my dad's truck (it's what I'm driving meanwhile) and I plan to rent a trailer if I need too. I hope I don't have to go as far as you but I'll do it if I have to.
