You can go pretty low and keep them in if you want to. Most just remove it because of the hassle. The main reason to remove it because most of the mounting points are on the fender lip which most people cut or roll when going flush.

Hope this inspires other owners to go a little less conservative than just going for Mk4 wheels.

Too low IMHO. Then again, I live on a street with speed bumps that would test the mettle of an H2 Hummer. I'm almost scraping as I CREEP across at stock ride height. The wheels are sick tho.
