I gave Mallet conversions a call today, twice. Apparently with their V8 Solstice that have no problems with that transmission what so ever! They told me that have a customer that has a supercharged V8 in his Solstice and his OEM Solstice transmission is holding up like a charm. Now, we all know that the hp doesn't kill our transmissions, it is the torque that does. But I'm sure these guys are beating the crap out of these tranny's, wouldn't you think? I say it is a safe bet that it is a good transmission. But I am looking forward to seeing someone in the Supra world to put it to the test!

I called Pontiac today and they quoted me at $1600 for a brand new Solstice transmission, then I asked, "Is that your best price?" He then asked me what I was using it for? Told him about our swap and then said $1300 is my best. haha.

Yeah, $1300 for a brand new trans is not a bad deal at all.
Thanks for checking with Mallet. I think we can lay the capacity concerns to rest!

so what would the overall difference be if you went with a colorado trans? would that have eliminated the need for the chevy driveshaft yoke? I would imagine that might come with some different gear ratios as well. And If i get this right...the solstice uses ecotec motors...does that mean i could put a 7m in my cobalt(fictionally) and the bellhousing would bolt up? Or you could also put a toyota motor into a few different gm vehicles?

MA5 - 3.753 2.26 1.37 1.00 0.729 (Colorado/Canyon/Hummer H3)
MA5 - 3.753 2.26 1.51 1.00 0.729 (Solstice/Sky - 2007 and up)

No, you could not put a 7M into your FWD Cobalt... but... with the Solstice Ecotec bellhousing, you COULD put an Ecotec into your Supra. You could also put a 7M into a Canyon/Colorado/Hummer H3/Solstice/Sky with the proper bellhousing.

That would be even better than the 2JZS2K I think... The tranny lines up like it should... and you don't hear people bitch about throwing off the balance of the S2K. Win-win.

Well, thats why I said fictionally. I know the 7m isnt actually going to fit into my cobalt. But this does open a lot of doors to some unique engine/chassis combos without having to do all that much work. Next question...how can we put the 2jzgte in a 4wd truck? sounds stupid, but there is your cheap skyline ripoff.

There was a guy who made the 4WD in a 4Runner work with a 7M, it was a while back. But with the right amount of money, anything is possible.

so does that mean there is an easy way to bolt an lsx to a r145?

Well.. yeah...

Method 1. Advance Adapters makes a custom bellhousing to mate the Jeep AX15 to a Chevy V8 pattern. It also works (minus the clutch disk) with the R154:

Method 2. Novak Enterprises makes an adapter plate to mate the Jeep AX15 to a GM pattern bellhousing. As before, it bolts to an R154 and then to any Chevy V8 bell.

The Advance Adapters bells show up on Ebay from time to time.

is that the Mallett Solstice?

that thing is beyond insain... no use for first or second...

yes, R154 in a 4WD truck is quite possible, it's changing the rear hosuing of the tranny with the 4WD one and bolting it up mostly... after that you can but pretty much anything you want mated to the R154...

so...now we can put an ls1 or small block into a supra with the stock trans or a solstice trans? Im doing it!! I wonder how long the r154 would last with a v8 beating it up, much rougher output than a nice smooth straight 6 turbo. But yes now im def building a v8 supra
