    Unless he is running coil packs then the ge only has one coil. Sounds like a wiring issue or an ecu fault. Check the wiring for the injectors very carefully and try swapping to a known good ecu.

    Did any of your plugs look fouled or particularly worn when you took them out? If it's intermittent it might be a grounding issue. Try cleaning all your grounds, especially the ones on the head. Might also try this...

    Check the wiring harness where it goes behind the engine. It can sometimes come loose and land on the egr cooler, causing a short. Happened to me on the freeway years ago, the plastic clip just broke off.
