Well, I'm not quite giving up yet. I know of one 4x4 guy that has installed supra gears on a 4x4 shaft. I'm essentially doing the opposite. Just need a press and a lot of work. However, if I do happen to come across a buyer that can give me my money back ...
I'll check into the shaft...
Alright, my trans finally came in. Greg, you are correct. I may have bitten off a bit too much. I was thinking that the output shaft was seperate from the main shaft - similar to automatics. Unfortunately, they are all one shaft, so swapping to a a supra output means a LOT of work. My...
Eh, I'm not too concerned. I was half figuring on swapping the tailshafts too. If the toyota parts don't fit, I'm sure colorado parts will. Either that or custom fab.
Dan, you're first in line (after me) for a test drive.
Greg, I'll document this to the best of my abilities. We've been talking about doing this for a long time. I was hoping someone else would be the guinea pig...but opportunity knocks.
Adjuster,
The gears on the Isuzu version of the AR5 aren't clear (at least not to me). As far as I can tell, they'd be the same as an equivolent year tacoma. However, they could also be the same as the Colorados. Either way, it won't help too much in reducing cruise RPM.
98 Taco...
Woohoo, I finally found a good deal on an Isuzu AR5 transmission! The plan is to swap my supra bell and tail housing and run a GM clutch disk.
I can't wait to see how my supra will feel with triple cone synchronizers!
Actually, I was referring to the energy required to jump the gap. It's easier to jump across the relatively low pressure (and hot) gap in the exhaust stroke, than that in the relatively high pressure (and cold) gap in the compression stroke.
Yeah, I don't think PWR is the way to go. I figure we have at least 4" to the hood. Figure 3.5 for the core height. Assume the core is 4" deep and 8 inches wide. Replace the Y pipe with a single inlet, dual outlet IC design and it should package with plenty of room to spare. If only the...
Huh, sorry, I'm not getting it. FFI -in and of itself- is a detriment to distribution.
I'll skip the comment about the throttle body, as that's another topic altogether. Yes, I'm aware of heat soaking and increased throttle response due to shortened ic pipes. Here's a teaser: In the...
Alright, I PM'd Ron. Hopefully he can chime in here. Though I don't think GTE manifold flow numbers will correlate to N/A manifold numbers.
As for distribution, it sounds like the turbo manifold is a little short on the middle cylinders. This would make sense - as the air hits the back...
Figgie, please show me data that a FFI will gain more power and have better throttle response than a n/a 7m.
Anyway, I'm not interested in a FFI for other reasons. I want to retain the current cross over design. Also, I'm not interested in peak power gains. Looking for a little more low...
I just read all of the thread "Using JZ's igniter in 7M-GTE".
No comment on all that, other than it was bitch to read the entire thing without getting anything answered.
Anyway, the reason that DLI won't fire COP is that current will take the path of least resistance - in this case - the...
No not those, but I believe there are some real electric turbos in development. Garrett is actually working on a true turbo with electronic assist. imagine having a little motor between the compressor and turbine.
Yeah I think we all read that book when we got our first turbo cars (88...
