I would ask to pull the oil pan off completely and check for metallic flakes in there. Cheaper to by a new oil pan gasket than new motor. The thing is though until you just rebuild a used 7mgte the right way your going to probably keep going through used motors...unless they have been rebuilt...

Yep its the intake side. On the block the exhaust side has two longer water jackets per cylinder and the intake just has one, but on the head gasket there is two openings on either side. Your pic looks the same as mine, but can't really tell if yours are blocked off as much as mine are.

The entire design of the stock oiling system, the coolant line on the back of the head, the stock radiator and intercooler, and the overall amount of heat put out by the motor to name a few..those opinions are my own assumptions and might be argued with but you can search them individually and...

Is it normal for the cometic MLS head gasket to block some of the water jackets down one side of the block? I have a complete rebuild gasket set and a cometic and both HG's do this..everything else lines up perfectly except these few...I don't understand why they would make a gasket do this...

As the others have said I would throw the wally in...to important to skimp on...could flow test it tho
