It's not hard at all. The only things that need to be removed are the dash panel under the steering wheel and the piece where the fog switch sits.
20 minute job if you've done it before, 45 at the longest.
My bet is the water pump or the '90 degree' hose on the bottom of the t-stat housing (I haven't had a problem with it, but there's been countless posts about it).
The only other things in that area are the upper radiator hose or the t-stat housing gasket.
I had the same exact problem.
Mine ended up being the water pump gasket. It would leak only during warm-up/cool-down. Hot it was fine and cold it was fine, but it dripped steadily anywhere in between. It was leaking down directly behind the crank pulley.
PITA to track down. I'd lose 1/2...
Probably the same as the Greddy. From their site:
"Engineered to increase heat-resistance, flexibility and durability, GReddy Extreme Timing Belts reduce the chances of cracking from heat, inconsistent timing from stretching and skipping or snapping. Improvements in materials and construction...
I've never met you but you seem like such a nice guy online.
I'm sorry to hear about this. At least you and your son are ok. Reminds me of my 95 Celica wreck five years ago.
Hopefully you will find a nice shell and keep going in the Supra community.
1) Are you getting code 52? ( http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=FI&P=23 )
2) Have you already rewired the circuit? ( http://oldschool.supracentral.com/htm/knock.htm )(or called Shaeff for the kit?)
3) Is it physically broken?
+1
My first 'I want to learn how to work on cars' car was my 95 Celica about 10 years ago (can't believe I've had the Supra 5 years now). It didn't break much and was a lot newer than the Supra (4 years old when I got it). MK3 Supras are a bit older and therefore can be a bit of a pain. Lots...
Just fix it. Like Grim said it will help get rid of window fog if nothing else.
If it's only the compressor you can pick up a reman Denso on ebay for cheap. Don't knock the ebay compressor either. I had my compressor, 2 lines, and dryer done for ~$450 and that was paying someone else for...
Don't feel too bad. I replaced the hoses and did a drain/fill 2 weeks before I did the water pump. Mine had a pinhole leak in the bottom of the gasket that only showed up in the 'warm up'/'cool down' temp ranges, cold it didn't leak and fully warmed up it didn't leak.
We all started somewhere.
These might help:
TSRM: This site also has an EPC (electronic parts catalog)

Champion Toyota: (good prices and kind to the Supra community)...

One person questioning the line and getting a response from jdub that it's good. As if Aaron weren't trustworthy enough as it is. DM does good work.
Get the dealer one. It's only $138 from Champion.
And replace the water pump ($82) while you've already got it broken down, unless you already have.
