    Hood Insulation for MK3 turbo

One thing to remember is that new cars don't have insulation. (at least my 95 Celica, 99 Camry, 00+ Celicas that I've seen...) don't have it. IIRC it's mainly because the quality of the paint has increased in the last 20 years and doesn't get damaged as easily by the amount of heat it would...

    Hood Insulation for MK3 turbo

I've been running without my insulation for almost a year now with no ill effects. ( <- sits back and waits for JJ to roast me) Of course, my paint was already a bit faded up the middle of the hood.

    Engine Mounts Toasted?

I don't know, I remember seeing pics of an 87 that nailed the back end of a bus and I think he rebuilt without having to do anything to that area other than a rad, fenders, and hood.

    Engine Mounts Toasted?

The 87/88 mounts are very sturdy. If it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side, check that your downpipe is secured to the bracket coming off the transmission. If not it will swing and slap that mount as well as your lower control arm. Mine has come loose several times and you...

    Charging issue...

That MM would be fine for testing current draw when the car is off. Set it on A DC 20 (I'm assuming you know which one is DC with a meter like that). Unless something is really wrong with your car it won't draw more than 20A with everything turned off. Just disconnect the positive battery...

    Charging issue...

If you're going to attack someone for trying to help, at least give correct advice when you try to help. I'm sort of making an assumption that the battery has been checked if he has to take it to get charged as most places will run a check and tell you the battery is dead when they charge it...

    Charging issue...

Don't see where you say to check the link. But replacement is less than $5 from any parts store, not expensive considering you get a) a value meal, b) a gallon of gas, or c) a pack of cigarettes, all for roughly the same price these days. Yes, if he has a meter he should use it, but if he...

    Charging issue...

I said replace the link, then check for draw. Not replace the link because of draw. It's more common to have a bad link or ground than it is to have draw in a stock car. If it's got aftermarket electronics, then draw could easily be a problem. Fusible link can be damaged enough to cause...

    Charging issue...

Find the source of this problem and you should be set. First I'd replace the fusible link, it's in the fuse box behind the battery and is bolted in from the bottom so don't yank it. For less than $5 and all the trouble a 'halfway dead' one can cause it's good maintenance anyway. After that...

    Fuel mileage?

I don't know how you think he answered his own question. If his fuel pump was going, it would have been giving less fuel than it was supposed to. He now has installed a pump that should push more fuel through it than stock. But for some reason he's getting better mileage (4+ mpg from the...

    Idle Problem

How do your vacuum lines look? Vacuum leaks are a major cause of idle problems. Have you had your alternator and battery tested or checked your grounds? Under heavy load (such as AC being on) the car will idle higher. (jj correct me if i'm wrong here, but it's been my experience)

    Exhaust problems/questions

Agreed. And Rennat, he's talking about the vacuum hose that comes off the bottom of the accordian (PS). And you forgot the ISC line. As for your cracked hose. I'm guessing you mean the one to the side of the filler cap, behind the alternator? It won't cause enough of an effect to notice...

Looking for lower ic pipe kit...cooleeze out of business correct?

Another extremely satisfied SpeedSource customer. If I had to do it again, I'd still buy the SS one. Sure it doesn't come with the upper, but the upper pipes aren't normally in bad shape. BTW: wasn't SS working on the upper kit???

    Diagnose these plugs.... again.

Stem seal problem = oil getting into cylinder, burning off, and leaving gunk on the plug IIRC it's ~$150 in parts and ~$100 in tools (waiting for cooler weather to do mine and don't feel good about using pvc as a tool when working on a head) I'd also follow the other suggestions about...

What is everyone's vacuum at cruise?

    50 to 60 kPa / 15 to 18 in/hg average cruise 65-66 kPa / 19-20 in/hg idle 70-85 kPa / 21-25 in/hg decel (25 at ~3.5k rpm)

Question about a plugged up Line

Looks like the PCV tube to me (follow it back around and it should go to the valve covers). Check and see if there's a plugged port on the accordian (intake tube). You should be able to get some hose from Autozone/Pep Boys... that will work for $3.
