Problems with SF??? As for why they don't know the difference I think you hit the nail on the head. New owners come in and try to gain respect by regurgitating things they've heard or been told. SM seems to stay on top of opinion based help better than most.

That port is used for your power steering and your BOV. Connect it back properly and avoid that mechanic in the future. There's likely an issue 'further down the line' in either the PS vacuum circuit or the BOV line.

This. Get a good contact cleaner WITH LUBRICANT or you'll be doing it again in a couple months. Most contact cleaners have lubricant built in just double check before purchase. You can get them at most auto parts stores, walmart, radio shack... The lubricant forms a seal that will help...

I've been daily driving my 87 turbo going on 8 years. In over 100k she's been very good to me and currently runs 12psi daily with only the aid of CompCams valve springs and a Greddy timing belt. Of course it's all in the maintenance. She's been down a total of maybe 3 or 4 months in the 8 years...
