Bryan: One of the machinsts was telling me he could easily drop 5>10 lbs from the 7M crank! (I sort of figured your motor wasn't going to be for long distance sustained effort ;) )
Correct it's the main body and typically only a tiny amount needs to be removed.
You need to shoot for around 1>1.5 thou clearance on the End of the Pump Gears and this can be done with a sheet of glass and some wet/dry sandpaper.
Due to a mistake at the machine shop I ended up with 2 cranks prepped identically so I asked the guys there in all honesty which they would use given the choice and they all said the 7M for it's increased longevity confirming my thoughts on the subject!
