Don't get too paranoid, folks. Car theives steal vehicles, they are rarely internet gurus, and they don't generally research for good cars to steal on the net.
Yup. Just take the new exhaust into a local shop, get them to cut the existing setup off and weld a flange onto your downpipe. Won't be very expensive.
Betcha the valve just managed to seat a little more - this is usual. Did you set the clearance a little loose after the rebuild? I always do, based on the idea that the valves will seat a little and the clearance will tighten into spec.
Excellent post. Explanation of the issue, apology, and methods of preventing it from happening in the future, as well as several contact methods should we need to talk to Joe.
This is the type of attitude I like to see from a vendor. Incoming rep!
Well, I went out to the garage and examined my spare block. Cleaned up that area until it was shiny, then swabbed it with some blue ink, and even direct sunlight shows no crack at that location.
I'll check again after I get it ground down, just to be sure, of course.
Ouch. On the good side, you do have it back. Any engine damage? Coolant looks dry - check that it'll still crank.
Fuel pump kill switch and a pager alarm would be first on my list from here.
I've used a few as well, the one that I don't see mentioned yet is MVP. They don't advertise here, however, they were very good on both price and shipping to me.
In Canada, you can also order from Mopac, they are a Canadian place with good prices and a good selection of generic high...
21 isn't that big of a deal... Now 25, that sucks. Your eyesight starts to dim overnight, your testicles shrivel up to the size of raisins, and you lose all hand eye coordination. You get used to it by 35, though. ;)
I'm pretty confident that if you clean the deck with rubbing alcohol, then swab it with dye, any cracks will be easy to pick out.
Could be something in the machining process, too. I wasn't planning on having my spare one milled, I am going to find a shop with a surface grinder and have them...
Good choice. I bought mine on advice from DrJonez, Spec stage 3, mated to the RPS billet flywheel. It's been awesome - stock pedal feel, and more power potential. Very little chatter, although it's there a bit in reverse now and again.
I'll buy another when I wear this one out.
Actually, with the upgrades you mention, you should be running a fair bit over stock boost with the controller off. We've made virtually stock cars here hit FCO with only once of becauseican's divorced downpipes!
The timing will have no effect on FCO.
Did you just add something that...
In the engine bay, on the passenger side of the firewall, a coolant hose goes to a big switch that can turn the flow of coolant into the cabin on and off. If you set your temp control to full cold, it should move a little piston - check that. If it doesn't move, try forcing it by hand with the...
