Meh, nothing so interesting here. Memory loss - I used to have nightmares about forgetting where I am supposed to be, or what I am supposed to be doing - or remembering what I need to do, but not how to do it.
I was afraid of the dark when I was a kid.
Agreed - start by taking off the vacuum line with the engine idling and check if there is any vacuum from it. Just put a finger over the end to see if you can feel it sucking.
I can see that being optimal, but that system looks even better than stock for mixture. The stock manifold puts most of the exhaust gas into cylinder #6, I'm sure...
I wonder if you could run that pipe inside the manifold...
Dammit, I really need to learn how to weld.
I think 'common' isn't quite accurate on that thread title. Sure, it happens. However, if I had to rate the likelihood of Supra problems, I'd say it's something like this:
BHG - chance of this happening in the life of your car: 99.9%
Rod Knock - chance of this happening in the life of...
You get used to it after a while. The part that's really annoying is that 99% of the people who ask this won't actually do it, and have no clue what driving a 600hp car is like.
1JZ parts don't fit on a 7M.
The piping for a TT setup is a nightmare - and, other than the exhaust manifold, has to be completely custom built on a 7M. It's even worse if you want to run them sequential. All this custom work would cost a lot of extra $$$ - in the thousands.
That said, if...
There are other differences between the HKS and Cometic gaskets.
Among other things, I've blown up a Cometic. The HKS has been bulletproof - I shattered 2 pistons, burnt another, and the HKS was still fine.
A significant portion of that 'smog nazi syndrome' was put there to make your car run better.
The EGR drops your combustion temps. Not just in the #6 cylinder, either.
The FPR VSV makes it easier to start when the engine is already hot.
The PCV system prevents your oil seals from blowing...
Bolts are the same for turbo or NA, so no problems there. Price seems a few $$$ high, but not enough to worry about. Could just be the shipping costs, I guess.
The coilpack outlets are numbered. :) Find the one that says '5' on it, and read the number from the other outlet...
If you're missing spark from both, then the coil or the wiring to the coil is toast.
If you're only missing spark from one, check the spark plug wire to #5, it's probably...
You take it off, throw it away, and buy a real filter. AEM or Apexi are good. K&N is not.
There is a reason why the guy sold it to you for super cheap. He was probably upgrading to something that actually filters the air going into your engine.
Maybe... however, you mucked with the plugs and wires, so that's more likely.
What type of plugs did you put in? Are they the right height? If they aren't, the plug boots tend to pop off, especially when they are new and springy.
I've never seen one without the extra hole.
Is there an extra hole 90 degrees between the two pin ends that hold the gear on? That's the 'mark' you are looking for...
Supras are likely to give you less grief. Unfortunately, the bills for the grief it DOES give you are likely to be higher. Toyota parts just cost more in the USA.
Actually, you're right, the MAFT Pro is even better if you can swing the budget. I'm running one myself, with an LC-1 wideband so it can adjust fuel delivery at WOT in closed loop. :) If you have any questions about it, let me know... if they are above my level, we've got some experts here...
