Essentially, yes, they usually fail due to one of these. Every stock piston I've blown up, or seen blown up, could be easily attributed to one or the other.
Given the choice of buying a new elbow & downpipe, or just going straight for the BIC DDP, there's no comparison. The DDP is worlds better, and the cost is about the same.
A Honda 750? I know it's the same as the Yamaha shims, but I've never heard of a Honda...
PS: The Yamaha dealership sells 'em for about 1/3 the price of the Toyota dealership last I checked.
If it's got the TRD rear diff, that'll go pretty quick. If it's the regular clutch pack LSD, it'll hold lots - Duane is pushing 800 rwhp through his, hasn't broken it yet.
I've never heard of someone breaking the stock driveshaft or axles, and we've got guys pushing well above 700 rwhp through...
This is one of those questions that is FWP - fraught with peril.
The stock internals on the 7M can handle a lot of power. What they cannot handle is a mistake. A little bit of detonation, a tiny bit lean at the wrong time... and POP.
Forged internals give you some leeway to play with...
Well, seeing as how I'm in Pittsburgh at the moment, the ones on my car are somewhat unguarded. Just scoot up to the west coast of Canada and liberate mine! ;)
Actually, you are out of luck even there, the center caps on mine are not the same.
