Ugh, I really don't like this statement. These cars are easy to maintain and run well when they've been cared for. Trash the car, or buy one that has already been trashed and it won't be reliable until you fix it right. All that being said, they can easily be a money pit, but what fun...

Drive a well cared for w58. ;) The r-154 isn't horrible, plus my w58 got a full rebuild last year, so that may also be exaggerating my evaluation. I'd like to hear what IJ has to say though.

It shifts and functions perfectly fine. If I didn't have the w58 to compare it to side by side, I might not think anything of the difference. The w58 feels like a car, the r154 feels more like a small truck tranny. Besides, aren't w58's much cheaper to buy than an r-154?

I actually like my N/A about five times more than the turbo. I know exactly what IJ means when he says he'd rather drive a clean N/A than a beat to hell turbo. I want a clean turbo, but I really do love my N/A. I plan on keeping it until 300k. Maybe even 400k

I had my first Turbo Supra drive about a month ago when I got my white Turbo running. It runs like ass, I'm sure, compared to most turbo's but HOLY CRAP!!! First it feels like my N/A, then you hit 2750 rpms and you feel a little something... and it doesn't stop.... and it keeps pulling...

Why would you swap trannies? Do you know what the R154 has that the w58 does not? Do you plan on having more than ~350 hp? Do you realize the w58 is a much more comfortable and smooth shifting transmission and that many people that have used both would much prefer a w58 for lower power (<350)...

It's always nice to see someone else rockin' a clean, stock N/A! :)
